Photo Drama of Creation surprise

Recommended Posts

I had a wonderful surprise this week.  While some of our publishers were going over some very old photographs of our village (around WW1), they found a picture of a group of sisters advertising the PhotoDrama in our little village.  We didn't get a congregation until 1970.  So no one can identify these diligent sisters (and one little boy) in the photo.

Photo is shown below.

It is possible that the 100 year old photo is mislabeled.  They could be standing in front of the sign advertising the Drama but really are part of a 4th of July demonstration or something similar.

Our history is more detailed than we ever knew.

Did anyone else have the Photo Drama come to be shown in their congregation territory?

I wonder why all the women are holding flowers..even rhe boy..and why 2 women are holding the Amercan flag? It is interesting to see the plackard in the window!

Just a thought: this doesn't look like a spontaneous photo; it's posed, so it was probably intended to be official.

If the photo-drama was to take place in municipal halls, the flag was often required to be displayed because the event was public. No doubt the question of strict neutrality had not yet been addressed in a clear and decisive manner.

The flowers may be part of the decor and the welcome given to the public.

At the bottom of the photo, it reads:

W.R.C. August 1914

What does “W.R.C.” stand for? W.R.C. means Women’s Relief Corps. What Was the Women’s Relief Corps? The Women’s Relief Corps (WRC) was founded in 1883 as the official women’s auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR)—the major Union Civil War veterans’ organization. It became one of the largest patriotic women’s organizations in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It would be interesting to know the authenticity of this photo and who is actually posing in front of the camera.

I received the photo from the sisters in our congregation who discovered it in a building that the brothers were remodeling for a business.  They saw the "Creation" posters and 'assumed the women in front were associated with it.  As I said in my posting, I was not sure of the direct connection.  The abundance of US flags concerned me.  I thought they might have gathered in front of the building for a parade.

Thanks for the WRC information.  The date is 'about' right anyway.  And the window poster is still encouraging.

Do you know the address of the building or the city in this photo?

The sisters had some additional photos of our village and tried to place the store front on Main Street and thought they had it placed.  But our village has renumbered the buildings many times (3 times since I moved here in 1980).  I examined the photo carefully and could not see an address or company or building name shown.

I think we should just be glad to find some reference to the PhotoDrama and let it go at that...♥️
