I used several free virtual instruments including: Straight Ahead Samples - The Real Piano, Artifake Labs - Redtron, and Ample Bass PII.  The drums were using Impact that is built into my DAW, Studio One.

Yes, it is very helpful in producing a song. The free very limits the preferences and styles, but it still offers a very good choice for voice and musical options. I based one on the wording of 'All Things Bright and Beautiful'. It seems ok, but only my wife has heard it.
