It looks like Dan.11:40 could be being fulfil ed. (King of the north pushing against the king of the south)

(Reuters) - Russia warned the West on Tuesday against unilateral action on Syria, a day after U.S. President Barack Obama threatened "enormous consequences" if his Syrian counterpart used chemical or biological arms or even moved them in a menacing way.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking after meeting China's top diplomat, said Moscow and Beijing were committed to "the need to strictly adhere to the norms of international law ... and not to allow their violation".

In regards to Daniel 11:40 - I found this interesting from the Daniel book

(Daniel 11:40a) Has the king of the south ‘pushed’ the king of the north during “the time of the end”? (Daniel 12:4, 9) Yes, indeed. After the first worldwar, the punitive peace treaty imposed upon the then king of the north —Germany—was surely “a pushing,” an incitement to retaliation.

How did the king of the north react? “Against him the king of the north will storm with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships; and he will certainly enter into the lands and flood over and pass through.” (Daniel 11:40b) The history of the last days has featured the expansionism of the king of the north. During the second world war, the Nazi “king” flooded over his borders into the surrounding lands. At the end of that war, the successor “king” built a powerful empire. During the ColdWar, the king of the north fought his rival in proxy wars and insurgencies in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

So Daniel 11:40 was already fulfilled some time ago. Along with :41-43

They have been pushing and shoving each other through proxies ever since - now Syria included.

This is what we are awaiting -

The rivalry between the king of the north and the king of the south—whether by military, economic, or other means—is nearing its end. Revealing the details of a conflict yet to come, Jehovah’s angel said: “There will be reports that will disturb him [the king of the north], out of the sunrising and out of the north, and he will certainly go forth in a great rage in order to annihilate and to devote many to destruction. And he will plant his palatial tents between the grand sea and the holy mountain of Decoration; and he will have to come all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him.”— Daniel 11:44, 45.

It will be interesting to see which nation will take up the task of destroying false religion FIRST. Or will this just refer to the UN as the King of the North (Rev 17:16)? After all Rev does refer to it as an eighth king? Exciting times are ahead.

Keep watching the news for them to declare Peace and Security - then it is all over!!!

Honestly, it doesn't look like anyone can believably say "Security" in this crazy world right now. I wonder what will transpire to make them feel all snug and secure???

China is facing some very SEVERE problems. This too will have a global impact. What "miracle" is going to happen to get the world to feel secure enough to actually say it loud and proud?

I hope it comes soon because Jehovah's SOVEREIGNTY needs to be vindicated once and for all!

A brother recently said that his personal opinion is that the destruction of Babylon the Great may be the cause of the declaration of "peace and security". His thinking on this is because of the wars and disagreements connected to religion. Food for thought. A lot of the turmoil in the world is fitted to prophecies after the fact. Again, all we can do is prepare ourselves and be ready for whatever happens on the world scene.

This is what I thought too. But the September 15th Wt brings out that "Peace and security" will be declared and THEN Baylon the Great will be destroyed.

I believe that we need to be careful when ascribing Bible prophecies to current events...People told me (as their opinion) that Britian would never join the European Common Market because we were part of the Anglo-American World Power...But we did, of course.....When Middle Eastern wars have happened I know well meaning bro's who proclaimed "This is it!! , as I believe they did in WW1 and WW2.

Russia, of course is not the Soviet Union who were the last identified King of the North. The Watchtower said , 11/1 '93 p21

12 So who is the king of the north now? Is he to be identified with one of the countries that were part of the old Soviet Union? Or is he changing identity completely, as he has a number of times before? We cannot say. Who will be the king of the north when Daniel 11:44, 45 is fulfilled? Will the rivalry between the two kings flare up again? And what of the huge nuclear stockpiles that still exist in a number of lands? Only time will provide the answers to these questions.
