Encrypted texting with RCS

Apple and Google today, after collaborating with wireless carriers, have released encrypted text messaging to the public in the form of RCS (I think it’s universal profile 3.0)

i know many people already use whatsapp🤢 and Signal🤩 but for those who still have some friends they still do carrier texting with, encryption ensures that only you and the other party can read the message: without it, your carrier can read everything you send and receive

 

(on a related note, whatsapp will soon be releasing a feature, similar to what Signal and Telegam offer, which allows you to keep your phone number private from the people you message, by introducing usernames)

oh and yet another interesting note for those in the EU, thanks to government regulation, people there can actually join whatsapp groups without having a whatsapp account. Thanks to mandated interoperability, apps like Haiket can connect to the billions of people on the WA network without the user needing an account with WA.
