Deadly rail crash: Scores of people have been killed and around 100 injured after two Spanish trains — carrying about 500 passengers — collided south of Madrid, according to a local government official. CNN’s team on the ground in Toledo province observed a frantic scene amid a huge emergency response.

I read that - The two trains were going the same direction but the one rear-ended the other and caused it to go off the tracks.

It's sad to read about the deaths may Jehovah remember them all. I hope everyone else is okay - especially our brothers and sisters.

"Spain’s transportation minister said a train crash that killed dozens on Wednesday appeared to result from an “inexplicable” decision by traffic control operators to tell a high-speed train to continue its journey when another train was stopped farther along the tracks."

🇪🇸 SPAIN: Latest information on the high-speed train disaster — November 1, 2026

On October 28, 2026, two high-speed trains collided near Urda, in the province of Toledo, on the Madrid–Seville line.

69 people were killed.

More than 200 people were injured.

41 injured people remain in hospital, including 16 in intensive care.

79 people have already been discharged from hospital.

56 of those who died have been identified. The identities of 13 others are still being established.

According to a preliminary theory, shortly before the collision, there was a failure in the LZB railway safety system. Train traffic control then switched to manual operation.

A Renfe train collided with an Iryo train that had stopped on the track. According to preliminary reports, the collision occurred at a speed of approximately 160–200 km/h.

The exact cause of the disaster and the responsibility of any individuals have not yet been established. The investigation is ongoing, and investigators are examining the onboard recorder data and the actions of the railway control staff.

16 people are in intensive care.

25 are receiving treatment in regular hospital wards.

Regional authorities have reported that, according to medical staff, all those currently hospitalized are expected to survive.

Spain has declared three days of national mourning.

On November 3, the Minister of Transport is expected to provide information about the disaster to Parliament.

The government is preparing financial assistance for the injured and the families of those who died.
