Voyager 1 to Reach One Light-Day: 18 November

Recommended Posts

The Voyager 1 spacecraft, traveling for nearly 50 years, will soon cross a mile marker reached by no other human-made object — one light-day away from Earth. That’s the distance a particle of light can travel in 24 hours, equaling about 16 billion miles (about 26 billion kilometers), a point that Voyager 1 will reach on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026, at 5:16:07 a.m. EST.

ED: Voyager 2 will cross this boundary in 2035.

In November 2026, NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft will cross a milestone no human-made object has ever reached — the point at which a radio signal traveling at the speed of light takes a full 24 hours to arrive — meaning the engineers on Earth who say "good morning, Voyager" on a Monday will not hear its response until Wednesday, in a probe still operating roughly 49 years after it launched from Cape Canaveral in 1977.

I think that's incredible. I would really like to reach that probe someday. Actually, I don't want anything to do with the probe; I could even destroy it. It only represents a milestone for me: surpassing the limit of what man has managed to achieve. Seeing that probe would bring me a mixture of feelings: joy at reaching that limit, sadness at knowing that man turned his back on Jehovah and was therefore erased from history forever, and gratitude to Jehovah for being such a wonderful God.
