This would be laugh-out-loud funny if it wasn't so sad because people don't actual read the Bible. The church was established in the 4th century. Hello!!!! Jesus died and was resurrected in the first century. When exactly was he supposed to have been at this church? :shrugs: "One of the holiest sites in the Christian world, believed to be the place of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection..."

This church was consecrated as such by Constantine's mother Helena in the 4th Century as the designated site of Golgotha and Christ's tomb and is actually on the site of a Venus Temple built by Emperor Hadrian. No Jewish 'unclean' burial place could actually be here though, as it is within Jerusalem's ancient city environs - something Jews would never allow - 'unclean' burials were to be outside places of habitation. We were at the city's Damascus Gate area when they were digging ancient city remains to show the city boundary was beyond the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, despite Latin and Orthodox Christendom's claims for this site.

When we were in Jerusalem an official Israeli guide and a priest, on different occasions, told us never to try entering this Church of the holy Sepulchre on our own because unscrupulous monks from various factions in the church might mug us - this was not uncommon apparently. They also pointed out there was an uneasy truce in the Church as there are 6 main sects of Christendom in the building claiming areas and refusing to co-operate and violence among them has sporadically broken out. In 2006, Time magazine told of one of many situations when monks there “brawled for hours, . . . clubbing each other with giant candlestick holders.” So great is their distrust of one another that the key to the church has for many years been entrusted to a Muslim family.

Therefore repairs are difficult to do and some disputed areas have been cracked and falling own since various earthquakes through the centuries, but no one wants to take responsibility to repair nor let anyone else repair either. Checkout "Status Quo" subsection in the article in Wikipaedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_the_Holy_Sepulchre

The exact same problems happen at the church of the Nativity in Bethlehem as noted in this Watchtower90 12/15 p.4 and forum thread with link to video:http://www.jwtalk.net/forum/read.php?49,71799,71799#msg-71799

When violence breaks out among the factions in these 2 churches the Police are reluctant to arrest these persons as they are regarded as 'Men of God' - Really?! What a bad example of 'Christianity' these groups give the surrounding Palestinian Moslems!

Thank you so much for this information. Wow, makes me really appreciate the Only True God and His organization. What a privilege! You've actually been to Jerusalem. I've heard from others about the religious strife there, but I think it would be such a spiritual boost to attend a meeting in Jerusalem. Accounts like this remind me of how important it is to continue to sanctify Jehovah's name in word and deed. Our organization is the only one on earth taking advantage of this wonderful privilege.

Thanks again for sharing
