Recommended Posts

Jerry I googled and found the Blue Jellies I had mentioned to you. I saw these up close on the beach at Coolongatta. SO here is a picture. when I saw them to me the tentacles looked like they had spear Heads. but these things were massive & were as big as a medium sized dinner plate.

Topics: beaches, jellyfish, nature, sealife, swimming Why big blue jellyfish are swarming into the Coast Comments (3) » Patrick Williams 21st Nov 2012 5:33 AM STORY TOOLS http://media2.apnonline.com.au/img/media/images/2012/11/21/SCN_21-11-2012_EGN_01_SCN181112WATERSCUM2XX_fct868x534x64_t460.jpg SWARMS of blue blubber jellyfish have invaded Sunshine Coast shorelines. Countless numbers of the jellies have been washing up on beaches over the past week. The Australian native jellies have been feeding off a type of blue-green algae called Trichodesmium, which has been spotted being washed in around Coast waterways over the past month. Experienced Sunshine Coast diver and marine educator Tony Isaacson snapped this photo of a beached swarm of jellyfish at Point Cartwright. Mr Isaacson said the algae they feed upon was frequently confused with coral spawn. He said the sting of a blue blubber jellyfish tentacle would cause irritation, but was not lethal.

"It's a known fact that eighty decibels of rushing water is one of the most pleasing sounds known to mankind. On other hand, ten and a half days at sea is enough water for anybody."
