I think of Jesus' comments about people looking at the weather and feeling like they can see that so clearly, but they were completely missing the much greater importance of his ministry:

(Matthew 16:2, 3) . . .“[[When evening falls YOU are accustomed to say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is fire-red’; 3 and at morning, ‘It will be wintry, rainy weather today, for the sky is fire-red, but gloomy-looking.’ YOU know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but the signs of the times YOU cannot interpret.]]

Orwell's accuracy or lack thereof is the least of what they need to be concerning themselves about.  More proof that their eyes have truly been blinded.  A brother mentioned in a talk once that without eyes of faith, not only are you unable to discern things accurately, but you see the exact opposite of how things really are.

*** it-1 p. 804 Faith ***
The Greek word e′leg·khos, rendered “evident demonstration,” conveys the idea of bringing forth evidence that demonstrates something, particularly something contrary to what appears to be the case. Thereby this evidence makes clear what has not been discerned before and so refutes what has only appeared to be the case.

Jehovah helps us to face reality.

I like how you think.

Oh, and I loved 1984.  Read the book twice and saw both movie versions.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.
