Techie Question

My keyboard is breaking ..... however each time it stops typing and makes a pinging noise instead (you can tell I am non techie)  I loose my internet connection. How can the two be linked ? is this posible ?? I have a mobile type of modem . The weird thing is if I am only using the mouse I never loose the connection ! I am just wondering if its the keyboard or the modem... I cannot type a sentence without loosing the connection

Is it a wireless keyboard, like a Logitech? Some wireless keyboards can interfere with a wireless internet connection.

Hey, Chuck. Thanx for the info. had considered a wireless keyboard, but seeing as how I have a wi-fi connection, I'll go to plan B.

WiFi doesn't cause this usually, but an Internet service supplied by a cell phone service can sometimes cause this.

 

@Annie: If it is a wired keyboard, then that can't be it. If it is a laptop, they sometimes run the keyboard off of the USB bus, the same as the Internet Dongle some cell networks use. Try plugging the Dongle into a different USB slot if possible.

sorry I mean slot. Yes it is provided by a cell phone provider, the previous people here used the same thing and it was fine

OK, I see it isn't a laptop.

 

Does the keyboard plug into a USB Port (flat, square)? or the older keyboard port, (round)?

 

If it is USB try switching either the keyboard or the dongle to different ports and see if it helps. You may need to try different combinations until you get them on different ends of the USB bus.
