Mementos for International Delegates

Recommended Posts

At the last international convention we were blessed to meet our dear brothers and sisters visiting from other lands. Some had handmade little gifts to give. They ranged from personal cards to origami bookmarks. I would really like to get started on a few little tokens that hopefully might be good enough to give. Something small and light-weight that reflects the occasion, the area or land the convention is being held in and home made. Has anyone got projects underway, done this before or have plans or ideas to share?

I was wondering that too.

One idea I had is to to laser print onto water colour paper in black and white and hand colour with water colour paint for cards or bookmarks. I love water colour. Having the theme would help get the cogs rolling.

I had thought of doing something like that. My first thought is, as you say, something unique and memorable with meaning behind it. We live in the foothills near the giant sequoia trees. I have been thinking of collecting some of the bark that has fallen off of a giant and carve it into something JW-ish. I am thinking of possibly carving two tablets in the likeness of the ones Moses broke. Then print out an inscription that could be duplicated on a printer and paste it on. The inscription could have the ten words in ancient Hebrew or perhaps the convention title and /or date. I don't know, just dreaming.

Or maybe Isaiah 65:22

"...For the days of my people will be like the days of a tree,

And the work of their hands my chosen ones will enjoy to the full."

If I get to go to Ecuador I was thinking of making some ear rings...something inexpensive.  Maybe with small lightweight stones or something natural.  Not sure yet either.

In 2009, the other sister and I purchased writing pens and had the theme imprinted on the side.

Also took a few toys purchased at the Dollar Store for the young ones...gave them to the friends in the Polish section.  The kids were very appreciative...you could tell they didn't have much.  (Funny, it's really hard to buy a gift for the young ones today, here in my area anyway...they already have every toy on the market.

Would be nice to incorporate your giant sequoia tree into items for the friends.  Good idea.

Thanks for the pinterest site Astrid, we've been racking our brains trying to find something different - and there is heaps to choose from from extensions to this site too, particularly bookmarks (and as I'm always losing mine, so any I can make myself plenty from whats on offer).

The most popular seem to be bookmarks (with or without your picture or a picture of your congregation), pens, pens, key rings. Even making little business cards with your email address so you can keep in touch after. Many long time friends and marriages have been made from these international conventions. It's a wonderful experience.
