Jubilation as Church of England's synod votes to allow female bishops

The historic decision came amid threats of parliamentary intervention, and with the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, having prepared contingency plans to dissolve the synod and call fresh elections if the vote had gone the other way. Welby said after the debate that he was "absolutely delighted by the result; grateful to God and to answered prayers", and that he expected the appointment of a female bishop "to happen as rapidly as possible".

We get asked how we feel about female priests and bishops on the Ministry. I tend to say it's a totally alien concept to me. Jesus is the only priest I recognise to intercede between me and God according to the Bible.Hebrews 7:28. They invent a hierachy that has caused so many problems with churches through the ages. Early Christianity had no such set up and we follow what Jesus told Christians to do.

 

That question is like asking me how I feel about Freemasons having a Grand Lodge Master - Their club their rules, they can do as they like, but they aren't Bible/God's rules.

Totally agree, we had a comedy sitcom in the UK that was hugely popular called "The Vicar of Dibley" (its on youtube if you want to check it out) anyway the central character was a femal vicar (a vicar is like a priest but for the Church of England).  I remeber one joke about homosexuality in which the characther mulled that she didn't know what the fuss about homosexual vicars where because when she was in training she thought you HAD to be homosexual to qualify... the joke only works if you understand the high percentage of gay vicars.

 

There's only the Catholics left, so let's see if they fold ... interesting times we're living in.
