Collections---what's your pleasure?

So what is it that you just can't seem to leave a store without?

Ever since I was younger I always liked to collect something. Never anything that was costly, professional or out of control. I used to collect marbles, Hot Wheels cars, baseball cards, little trinkets and souveniers from places I visited, 45's (remember those??), makeup.

Then for awhile it was postcards. Then playing cards, pens, markers, highlighters, notepads, magnets.

About 8 years ago I wanted to learn how to quilt. Wasn't ever much above a novice sewer and crafter, but when I got into a fabric/quilt shop, uh-oh! Then I worked in a fabric store. Ah, the happiness. :)

I still collect, with projects in mind. For now I have my pictures of my sewing room as all my things are in storage until we move.

How about you?

Starting to collect make-up...

LOL! I have quite the extensive make-up collection too but I never considered myself a collector of makeup until now! I can't seem to pass that section in the store no matter what!!! Gotta find out what is new!

Actually I collect glass pens, fountain pens and vintage stationery.

Don't live for the moment - live for the future! :D

After the horrors of the First World War people were so sickened by war and the great loss of life that they weren't interested in buying children war toys. Therefore, British toy companies such as William Britain Ltd, Taylor & Barratt stopped making small diecast/lead toy soldiers for a while and started a series called Home Farm.

An elderly gentleman came into our Antique shop with his collection from his childhood in the 1920's. It was very quaint with it's little horse-drawn ploughs, tillers, haycarts and other old farm machinery. There were farmers and shepherds in old fashioned leather gaiters and smocks with their sheep, bulls, cows and pigs. There was a blacksmith/farrier at his smithy shoeing a horse. there was a farmer's wife with her chickens. There was a scarecrow with crows sat on 'his' shoulders. There was even a windmill with a miller with flour sacks and some tiny rats! Lot's more miniature vintage stuff that was so nice I couldn't bear to split it up and sell it on. I had it on display in a cabinet (so I didn't have to dust it all) at home and added beehives, duck pond, dovecote and other things to it. It's my little 'bygone era' bucolic/pastoral paradise and I love looking at it when I can. I had to pack it away, but it's in a special case with drawers that I can get out and open to look at now and again.
