Bad Cough Remedy ...

Recommended Posts

Honey is natural and considered harmless for adults. But pediatricians strongly caution against feeding honey to children under 1 year old. There are 2 thoughts about giving raw honey to infants:

That's because of the risk of botulism. The spores of the botulism bacteria are found in dust and soil that may make their way into honey. Infants do not have a developed immune system to defend against infection, says Jatinder Bhatia, MD, a Georgia neonatologist who heads the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Nutrition.

The National Honey Board, which the USDA oversees, also agrees that infants should not be given honey. "The concern for babies stems from the fact that infants lack the fully developed gastrointestinal tract of older humans," the Board's web site states.

Honey helps with ailments because honey is a antibacterial, it works better raw but still does some good if the honey is cooked. In general, the darker the honey, the better its antibacterial and antioxidant power.

Thank you Deena  - which is why research pertaining to your personal circumstances is always better. Yes you are right about the darkness of honey - Manuka honey is very dark brown.

Looking for a real Bad Cough Remedy?

May I suggest drinking a cola!

It will do absolutely nothing for a cough.

That is about as bad a cough remedy as I can find.

:bouncing:

PS: Root beer might be equally ineffective.

I am not sying I am Superman, I am only saying that nobody has ever seen Superman  and me in a room together.

I know. I thought this is a GOOD cough remedy, not a bad one!

I want to age without sharp corners, and have an obedient heart!

Okay, now we're on the not for children remedies. Will Tennessee Honey work?

That is similar to the recipe my Mom used, and I used it on my own children, and grandchildren.

Using only a glass container, Cut up, not too fine, a yellow onion.

Place the cut up onion into the jar, then pour a good amount of white sugar over that. Put a lid on it, then put it into the refrigerator, and let stand for an hour or so. The resulting liquid, dose of maybe a half teaspoon, is very effective. This only keeps for 3-4 days, then fresh needs to be made. Makes for stinky breath, but a mint covers it.      :D
