Slight mis-quote in the headline, but it does grab ones attention. He didn't say it IS or that it IS BEGINNING to look like, but rather that IN THE FUTURE it may look like "we may well be leaving to coming generations debris, desolation, and filth."

The head of the world's largest Christian denomination called for "a new and universal solidarity" to fight climate change Thursday, warning that humanity risks a future of "debris, desolation, and filth."

The long-awaited encyclical from Pope Francis, titled Laudato Si — "Praise Be to You" — effectively puts the full weight of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic Church behind efforts to eliminate fossil fuels and head off the worst effects of global warming.

"Doomsday predictions can no longer be met with irony or disdain," Francis writes in the 184-page document. "We may well be leaving to coming generations debris, desolation, and filth."

I am reminded of Genesis 6:

11 But the earth had become ruined in the sight of the true God, and the earth was filled with violence.12 Yes, God looked upon the earth, and it was ruined;+ all flesh* had ruined its way on the earth.+

Soon, He will cleanse the earth again and for the same reason.

I know 3 posts in a row seems a bit much, but this ending of the article was very interesting:

Francis wrote that the human mastery of technology has brought about life-saving advances, even beauty. But that development "has not been accompanied by a development in human responsibility, values and conscience." That's led to a system that has failed to extend regular access to basic resources to the world's poor—who are now expected to bear the brunt of the rising seas, more intense storms and longer, deeper droughts that scientists say will be the result of a warming world, he argued.

Humanity needs to employ the "positive and sustainable progress" of the past centuries in a new way, the pontiff wrote.

"Although the post-industrial period may well be remembered as one of the most irresponsible in history, nonetheless there is reason to hope that humanity at the dawn of the twenty-first century will be remembered for having generously shouldered its grave responsibilities," he wrote.

I can't help but think - IF man found some source of energy that was clean and could quickly replace fossil fuels - would they then say, "peace and security"??

Now the first part of the article is interesting because politicians are saying outright that he should not be involved in politics and the last part where he says it could bring peace and security is very interesting as well! I see things winding down to the end of this system of things quickly with these thoughts being pushed all over the news. On Fox News tonight they said it was clear that the Pope should not be involved in politics but they went into the fact that the Pope had been very active in politics and that even President Obama stated that the Pope was instrumental in dealings with Cuba. Then they broke down how religious leaders have historically been involved in major politics sighting several examples including the creating of laws we have today.

Very neat how the ideas are developing that religion is a problem in so many ways. Yay!

The Pope talks alot but does nothing, unlike our King, Jesus.  Jesus will do something about the earth before it is ruined and it won't be just words - he will act and he won't need any support from anyone else to do it!  If the Pope were truly humble, he would realize that the earth could only come back to a paradise condition with help from a superhuman source, someone higher, humbler, honester, and more powerful than him!

Don't live for the moment - live for the future! :D
