Quebec Cabinet ministers and Deputy Premier arrested for fraud

After a 4 year investigation the anti corruption watch dog arrested 7 people for corruption.  This included people from engineering firms that may have given kick backs to the provincial party for contracts. 

 

They are saying the actions undermined the province's democratic process to the tune of influencing votes and vote buying. Effectively crippling the process. 

 

Here is the story. You don't think this kind of thing would happen in a western country but here it is.

That kind of thing happens in this western country (US) all the time!  Federal, state, county and city/town levels on a consistent basis.  The more freedoms people have, the more corruption abounds.  I can imagine in the situation cited above that people will be throwing each other under the bus to keep from doing time or paying fines.
