Two people have died after up to 17 were shot at a nightclub during a teen disco party in Fort Myers, Florida, local media have reported. 

The mass shooting happened at the Club Blu Bar and Grill about 1am local time (3pm AEST), NBC2 News reported.

It is believed some nightclub guests were aged as young as 13. 

 

Two people have died, Wink News reported citing the Lee County Sherriff's Office.

A suspect has left the scene and one person has been detained for questioning, NBC News has reported.

Parents have told local media outlets their children dodged bullets and ran between cars to escape.

There are reports of three crime scenes in the area, and it is unclear if they are connected.

Police are at Club Blu and two intersections, NBC News has reported.

One scene had 30 markers on the ground, journalist Chris Lovingood reported.
