Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

From 1972, one of the greatest live albums of all-time Neil Diamond Hot August Night performing "Canta Libre". So much variety and pure talent coming through before he became "Larry Leisure Suit" in the 80s. My older brother got invited to a Neil Diamond concert in Seattle that same year. I am also posting another great song from this album, actually I could post the whole album, it's that good.

These were played consecutively in the show as Neil took his audience on an amazing journey. The song he performed before this was his classic "Play Me" and after these two songs he performed the ever popular "Song Sung Blue".  One interesting part of Morningside is the word "Home" is not in the original lyric and yet the emotion he gives such a simple word is amazing.

do you speak Italian?

No, unfortunately not. But when I was in Phnom Penh, my dorm mate was an Italian man. He could only speak a smattering of English. So I had to learn up some Italian. Found it most interesting especially if one is into opera.

Spoiler

The first known operas were written in Italy in the final years of the 1500s and into early 1600 in Italy by composers including Monteverdi. The Baroque era saw opera spreading throughout Italy, with Italian libretti remaining dominant into the subsequent Classical period. The word ‘opera’ is itself Italian, translating from the word ‘work’, signalling the fact that the form originally brought together poetry, dance and music. Italian opera has undergone the most stylistic developments over the years, thanks to its dominance on the scene. The big names are easy to  remember: Puccini, Donizetti, Rossini, Bellini and Verdi.

One of my favorite performers as I was growing up as a kid in the late 60s and early 70s. I got to see Jerry Reed live at the Yellowstone County Fair in Billings, Montana. His guitar skills are often overlooked due to his over the top personality. Really good show. He wasn't a great actor but did appear in movies and did a good job.

One of the best guitar players ever was Gary Moore. There wasn't any style he could not play well, some would say perfectly. This is a two version song as he states in the video. The first part is bluesy, slow and brilliantly performed. Part 2 has a more metal, gritty edge. Think of Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd how it starts out slow and builds up to a fast paced version. If you want to hear his rocking style look up Gary Moore Monsters of Rock, my favorite song from that concert was
"Rectify". If you like the style of Jimi Hendrix, look up "Red House" by Gary Moore.

Many of us in the 70s owned a copy of Frampton Comes Alive from 1976. Sadly, this song was not included on that release. It was added to the 25th anniversary special edition. Just The Time of Year by Peter Frampton, recorded live in 1975.

Sam Moore of Sam & Dave passed away at 89. Many are familiar with their hit song "Soul Man" also covered by the Blues Brothers from SNL and movies. Here's a couple songs featuring Sam Moore. In the song John the Revelator it's opening is by Taj Mahal followed by Sam Moore from the movie Blues Brothers 2000. I am also posting the original Soul Man by Sam & Dave and the Blues Brothers.

Look carefully at the keyboard player in the SNL band, that's Paul Shaffer who was the leader of the band for many years on the David Letterman show!

Wow, Sister Andre, you have such an eclectic taste in music. I'm finally a fan of Michael Buble. Such a classy singer.

I haven't posted here for a while, so I thought I'd come up with some good stuff. I discovered a channel on YouTube called PostmodernJukebox last year. It features covers of popular songs and the artists are very talented. I'll also post the original version of the songs to go with it 😊

I grew up listening to very little rock music, although I've always liked it. A few artists my mom played and the songs that came on the radio. So there's a ton of rock music I later discovered and that friends introduced me to as an adult.

I was told about this album last year from a co worker in his late 60’s that has introduced me to a lot of good rock music. I’d never heard of this album, although I was familiar with one song on it, but just didn't know who sang it.

My co worker was shocked when I told him I didn't recognize the album cover and never heard of it. I listened to it and was blown away. I had intended to post some songs from the album but never got around to it.

For me, one of the greatest composers of all time is Ennio Morricone, he was a master conductor who made plenty of songs for movies like the Untouchables. I loved them because they could stir my feelings and energize me.

Here’s a sample (music only):

Leviticus 19:18: “‘You must not take vengeance nor hold a grudge against the sons of your people, and you must love your fellow man as yourself.”

I also like Richard Wagner’s Valkyrie:

I often listen to this on the way to work; helps get me going, almost as much as a coffee or Red Bull.

Leviticus 19:18: “‘You must not take vengeance nor hold a grudge against the sons of your people, and you must love your fellow man as yourself.”
