I'm noticing that features that previously required the native JW Library app seem to be slowly finding their way into the WOL.

There is already a "Today" button which shows, similar to the Meeting section in JW Library, the midweek schedule and the next WT article. (but as a bonus, has the day text also at the top)

Now there seem to be links added (though technically broken) to the videos which do not appear on JW.org, such as sample presentations.

For example, notice here under Apply Yourself to the Ministry, it says:

  • Initial Call: Play and discuss the video.

and the last work is hyperlinked, although that link, which takes you to http://www.jw.org/finder?pub=mwbv&issue=201801&track=1 doesn't actually work right now (it redirects you back to the homepage). But perhaps it will work one day, and then it'll be easier than ever to use any device that can access the Web to quickly show the week's meeting contents and videos, without needing to install JW Library!  (which can be onerous on some devices)

Until then, to play a video, you can bookmark this (but each month you need to edit the last digit of the URL):

https://www.jw.org/download/?langwritten=e&fileformat=MP4&pub=mwbv&issue=201801

It shows you each video and even lets you stream right inside that webpage, similar to JW Broadcasting. It's even easy to tell which video the "broken" link refers to; track=1 (in the first URL) means the first video on the above webpage.

Br. Brandon,  out here in the rurals, finding an internet connection is usually impossible.  Some have cell phones that can act as a "hot-spot" but it requires the purchase of an additional data plan (usually unlimited).  So the WOL is only useful in our Kingdom Hall or at home (or if you can find a connection in one of our villages.  Just a case of different solutions for brothers in different areas.

Yes brother @jwhess this requires the internet. Because it is a Website! ^_^

hehe but I totally hear what you're saying. There is a need both for lightweight websites but also completely offline publications. Well, we have both now!

so long as you have cellular connection (this can be with or without a phone; such as cellular iPads which my parents have) you can access WOL.  of course, if you don't have a smartphone, or internet is extremely slow and/or cost-prohibitive, then just make sure you keep seeking out those free wifi hotspots and updating your pubs whenever you can!  :o

the main problem with JW Library is on lower-cost devices which have very little on-board storage available. for these ones, especially if they have cellular data and/or wifi at the KH, the WOL is a real lifesaver!
