Pope Francis to open World War II-era Vatican archives to scrutiny

'The church is not afraid of history': Pope to open secret World War II archives

 

ROME —Pope Francis said Monday that the Vatican would open its archives on the World War II papacy of Pius XII, long viewed by many as having failed to speak out against the atrocities of Nazi Germany.

The move, coming after 13 years of work by Vatican archivists, is intended to shed light on the actions and thoughts of a pontiff whose still-contested reputation has made it difficult for the Catholic Church to come to terms with its role during the war....

The Bishop of Rome stated that it will be opened in March the 2nd, 2020, and one wonders why yet another year is necessary after all these years of secrecy...Somehow I'm thinking that not everything will be released when this happens, and I'd imagine it's possible that they will destroy some of the archives first, otherwise they'd be too ashamed to open to the public.
