What questions from CO?

Recommended Posts

  • If you have anything in your life that prevents you from being appointed (secret sin not untold, etc.) It could be personal circumstances that prevent you to serve, but in this case, normally the elders are already aware of those and wouldn't appoint you.
  • If you ever had any problem relating to sexual abuse of minors even if in the distant past
  • If you accept it

In the week (normally on the last day) of the CO visit, you should be invited for a meeting but the reason won't be shared (caution! It can be a meeting for any other purpose don't go thinking you are going to be appointed beforehand)

I'm not sure what the procedure is now. When I was appointed some years ago the CO didn't ask me anything. We went out together in service and had a normal conversation about my goals. The next week two elders met with me before the meeting and told me I had been approved as a MS. They asked three questions:

- What is your legal situation in the country and at work? (This is because I serve in a foreign-language congregation made up mostly by immigrants, and not all of them are in the country legally. In that case you cannot serve as a MS.)

- Have you ever been involved in child sexual abuse?

- Is there any reason why you shouldn't be announced as a MS

This last question is an interesting one. One of the requirements for a MS is to have a clean conscience. But there's no way the elders can know that unless they ask you directly. There might be other reasons why a brother doesn't want to be appointed, maybe fear of the responsibility.

Chapter 6 of the Organized book covers everything related to Ministerial Servants:
