New Isotope Analysis Just Changed The Very Timeline of How Earth Was Born

Quote

In the very early days of the Solar System, baby Earth took a much shorter time to form than we previously thought. According to a new analysis of the iron isotopes found in meteorites, most of Earth took just 5 million years to come together - several times shorter than current models suggest.

For Earth, this process was thought to have taken tens of millions of years. But the iron isotopes in Earth's mantle, according to scientists from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, suggest otherwise.

In my opinion, just more proof that radiometric dating is far trickier than most people would like to believe.

That sure beats what I was taught as a little kid. If I remember correctly it was just 24 hours.

Maybe we adjust between my number and the scientific claim. I think that would make it 2.5 million years plus or minus twelve hours.

I had accepted for a long time that this "billions and billions" of years business is not going to hold up to final revelations, either in this system or the next. Jehovah doesn't need all of that time. I read somewhere that some trees that were previously thought to be fossils were a lot younger than scientists thought, and the stone like appearance was minerals absorbed by the wood. If I can find the news article I will post it.

Now I am not accepting the 'young earth' philosophy, may I add...

I look forward to the article.

Jehovah might or might not need that time, but the many chemeical and mineral processes to make the earth we know take time, a lot of time. We live on the surface of a mostly molten ball, it took a lot of time to cool and a lot of time for plants to take root and produce before man was on scene.

This is the article I read - it only discussed later fossils with mineralzed trunks,  but my mistake - it did not claim that they are the earliest - these are only 3.3 million years old (Carbon 14 dated), and the article was first posted in 2012 ---    https://www.deeproot.com/blog/blog-entries/incredible-fossilized-trees

A more recent article from 2019 was about forests of trees with roots  all intertwined, and the article suggested that 385 million years ago, that was how many trees flourished. Yes, these petrified fossils are from trees that are THAT OLD according to Carbon 14 dating.

Fascinating, huh? Well it was for me. I could understand how animals like dinosaurs contributed greatly to the stores of petroleum deposits, but these kinds of trees with massive root systems likely produced a lot more.

I still have suspicions about using Carbon 14 for specimens of this age, when C 14 has a half life of only 5700 or so years.
