JW Library crashing

Hello, 

 

    The JW Library app opens and suddenly closes on my laptop. Has anyone had this issue before? I'm hoping and praying I won't have to uninstall/reinstall the app as I don't want to lose any of my notes. I'm sure they're not backed up. Ugh! I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Try going to "settings/apps /JW library/storage

Once you are there, you should see a" clear cache " option. Try doing that.

Edit : sorry, I just reread your post and see that it's not a phone or Tablet. So I don't have a suggestion.

The laptop may be updating other apps at the same time. Leave it open for awhile so it can finish its updates before you open JWLIBRARY

There have been some Windows updates being forced in the last week or so. I have noticed some of the computers at work being somewhat unresponsive at times.

 

I have noticed that JWL does suffer from these issues when there are these bigger updates, especially with net.framework ones.

Does the app stay open for any length of time? If so then you could try to create a backup before it crashes.

 

Mine is working fine at the moment on my Windows 11 running JW Library 13.1.58 (170209). I have had issues before when a poor internet connection was causing a failure for the catalog to update or I had other Windows updates pending and I needed to restart.

The first thing JW library app does on starting is to update it's own catalogue. This can take several minutes with a slow connection. During this time I have occasionally found it to be unstable. Try waiting for a few minutes before trying to use it

The app wouldn't even fully open before crashing. I tried restarting several times and checked my connection. Sadly, this app was the only one I was having issues with so I wound up deleting and reinstalling it. Thank you for responding to the post.

We had the same issue on our Windows laptop. It would die when it was first trying to open it. It would spin and then the app would close before it would even load the home page

 

Looks like the catalog db file was corrupted. Look for the catalog.db file in C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Packages\WatchtowerBibleandTractSo.45909CDBADF3C_5rz59y55nfz3e\LocalState\Catalog\Production. I created a new folder and moved the 4 files into that and then restarted JW Library and it worked. It recreated new catalog files. 

 

None of our notes or highlights were lost since that sits in a different folder path.

 

Hope that helps anyone else in the future.
