It is very brave for this older sister to make a stand for her beliefs. The situation can turn quite volatile in a conservative country like India. In this SEA country where I am, the headmistress would probably lose her pension for going against the authorities. Not to mention the fine imposed on the person. I also don't discount the headmistress being immediately suspended for breaching the rules.

Imagine slogging for decades and not have any savings to tide over one's twilight years.

She arranged to have her assistant hoist the flag. That was reasonable. It's not like her actions soiled the occasion. Everything still went as planned.

It says that in previous years she took a leave of absence (a day off) on independence day , which 'raised suspicion'.

It sounds like she was applying Proverbs 22:3  "The shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself."

She said she respects the flag but salutes only God.

Jehovah must be very proud of her.
