Climate change 17 goals

Recommended Posts

Climate change crusader Bill Gates says the Russia-Ukraine war has all but guaranteed the United Nations’ 2030 sustainable development goals will not be met. Those 17 goals, which Australia adopted in 2015, include ending poverty and ensuring access to low-cost sustainable energy globally.

Speaking at the Lowy Institute on Monday, Mr Gates said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had distracted the world’s attention from issues such as poverty and climate change, and countries were funnelling money and governance into war efforts instead of those goals.

“The countries involved will miss ... every one of those goals,” he said.

Mr Gates warned that efforts should now be focused on limiting warming to 2.5 degrees, saying the world could no longer cut warming to less than 1.5 degrees.

He said the effects of global warming had yet to match diseases such as malaria, which kills 400,000 children annually, but it could soon be as dangerous if left unchecked.https://www.afr.com/technology/gates-says-putin-s-war-has-destroyed-world-s-sustainability-goals-20230123-p5ceoz

Once again, this proofs that human governments cannot solve problems we are facing.

There's a reason for that. Part of what hampers the Climate Fight is that exploitation is still cheaper than evolution. It's cheaper and easier to raise prices on coal and oil than it is to build renewables. A country can raise carbon prices and say "See, we're fighting Climate Change!", but they just cut off heat and food to half a million poor people; and made another billion for the Oil and Coal Companies. The working poor, the uneducated, people with large families? These people are more likely to work factories and labor. Whenever someone tries to stop logging from tearing down another forest, they're getting in the way of blue-collar people with kids, who won't get paid until the trees come down. Low-Income families have to buy cheap and disposable, rather than ethically sourced products...

Fixing the world means fixing all of it.

GOAL 2: Zero Hunger

2023: Another year of extreme jeopardy for those struggling to feed their families. A record 349 million people across 79 countries are facing acute food insecurity – up from 287 million in 2021. This constitutes a staggering rise of 200 million people compared to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels.
