NW Scheduler/Publisher - Updates, Support, and Suggestions

I fully agree that better community communication would help a lot. One thing I keep seeing mentioned about NWS is frustration around communication,  unclear roadmaps, limited feedback loops, little visibility into development progress, and the feeling that the project has gone quiet.

That’s one of the reasons I recently started the Baruch Community Discord server, a place where users, beta testers, and developers can communicate directly with each other instead of relying only on support requests.

The goal is to make development more transparent and community-driven through:

  • feature discussions
  • bug reports
  • beta testing
  • devlogs and updates
  • privacy & security discussions

I believe software improves much faster when users are actively involved in the development process itself.

This post sounds like it was written by AI. We already established NWS does ask for feedback and has a way to provide it to the developers, and I haven't seen anybody say that "the project has gone quiet". There are regular updates and improvements, not the least NWS Mobile, which is a huge benefit to those without computers and those who want to do things 'on the go'.

Regardless, this thread is called NW Scheduler/Publisher - Updates, Support, and Suggestions, not "Baruch Promotion". You already have your own Baruch thread for that. It would be better if you posted your Baruch stuff there only, rather than double posting everything.

Thanks Matt,

The moderators will do our best to keep this as the NW Publisher topic and the other as the Baruch topic. It can be found here, if you are interested in an alternative:

I wouldn't really say this is the case, at least in my own experience. Outside of requesting feedback on the beta of NWS Mobile, I don't see where they invite nor encourage feedback for neither NWS nor NWP.

To me it seems the opposite, that if at all possible contacting the developers is the last thing they want, even for legit problems, let alone constructive feedback.

I may be mistaken, and if so please direct me to where they invite feedback. Because I definitely have some. 😂

But it is all good now as we now know how to send our problems and screenshots to the developers.

If by 'feedback' you mean problems or bugs, click Problem.

If you mean suggestions for a new feature or you have ideas on how to improve something, then there is also a specific Suggestion tab.

Both have been there for as long as I can remember. They are both found in the same place on the NWS website by clicking Help & Support, then clicking Contact us.

This is the process to submit a suggestion. Some requirements are reasonable. Others just seem over the top and remind me why I did not submit a suggestion lol. Consult with other elders in other countries?!?

**********************************

This form is if you have a suggestion or feature request.

We are only able to accept suggestions from brothers who have been registered for at least 3 months, and who are willing to provide a detailed suggestion report (which includes multiple screenshots, diagrams or pictures), and who are willing to first consult with others.

There are several reasons for this:

We receive many suggestions from brothers who have only just started using New World Scheduler and therefore do not understand why we made certain design decisions. Please first try using New World Scheduler the way it was designed for several months before making suggestions. While it may be different to the way you used to do things, you will likely find it is simpler and easier.

We receive many suggestions for things that New World Scheduler can already do. This is likely because brothers did not take the time to fully understand the software.

We receive many vague or incomplete suggestions and it takes considerable time to understand what is being asked.

We receive many suggestions that are simply personal preferences of a single person or single congregation. We write software for the worldwide brotherhood, not a single congregation.

We kindly ask brothers please only submit a suggestion if:

You have already registered and been registered for at least 3 months

You have carefully checked Help & Support and confirmed that this feature does not already exist.

You have carefully checked Frequently Asked Questions and confirmed that this feature does not already exist.

You are willing and able to provide detailed Suggestion report, which includes multiple screenshots, diagrams or pictures for EACH suggestion.

Have first consulted with other elders, including those in other congregations, circuits or countries. We write software for the worldwide brotherhood, not a single congregation.

We understand some brothers do not want to follow these steps. That is fine, please do not submit a suggestion.

Please confirm:

I am a Registered user and have been using New World Scheduler for at least 3 months

I have carefully checked Help & Support and Frequently Asked Questions and confirmed this feature does not already exist

I have prepared a comprehensive and detailed report, which includes multiple screenshots, diagrams or pictures of EACH suggestion

I have already consulted with other elders, including those in different congregations and circuits

Note: As mentioned above, it is a STRICT REQUIREMENT to please provide screenshots, diagrams or pictures clearly describing EACH suggestion and how it might work.

If you do not do this, your suggestion will be automatically deleted.

I asked AI (Claude) for an honest analysis of the process. This was it's final conclusion, and I don't disagree:

Overall tone

The language is notably guarded and somewhat discouraging. Phrases like "We understand some brothers do not want to follow these steps. That is fine, please do not submit a suggestion" read as a polite way of saying they'd rather not receive suggestions at all.

I came here to try to help other brothers and hopefully get some tips myself, not to argue, but we always want to speak the truth, and not twist or misquote things to back up our opinions. It does not say it's a requirement to consult with elders in other countries, but they do ask you to discuss your idea with others outside of your own congregation.

Or they just want to receive suggestions that clearly explain what you are requesting and how you'd like it to look or work. I honestly don't think that is unreasonable. If they don't understand a request, how can they possibly implement it.

Should we really expect them to spend time on "vague or incomplete suggestions" that take "considerable time to understand what is being asked", suggestions without any screenshots or diagrams, "personal preferences of a single person or single congregation", or requests for features that "already exist".

Even if a congregation had their own inhouse developer writing custom software just for their congregation, they would still have to provide all of the things NWS asks for - other than the consultation. But then they'd be paying for custom software..

Fair point, and I didn’t mean to derail the thread or turn it into Baruch promotion. I also recognize that NWS has helped many congregations over the years, especially with NWS and  NWP.

And yes, I do use AI extensively 🙂 At the moment I’m still the sole developer behind Baruch, handling development, architecture, documentation, visuals, and communication myself. AI helps me work more efficiently and explain ideas more clearly.

My goal is eventually to build both a development team and a community/support team around Baruch, but that takes time. In the meantime, I’d rather continue making progress and openly share what I’m building instead of waiting until everything is perfectly organized.

My intention is not competition. We’re all brothers, and I believe cooperation, feedback, and sharing experiences is the best way to create tools that genuinely help congregations.

I’ll keep Baruch-specific discussion mainly in the Baruch thread going forward.
