These days I watch cricket and I am fast asleep after 10 min

I tried watching hockey on tv, the camera swerving all over to follow the puck, where's the puck? They had for a short while a tracer of where the puck was going, it didn't last long and neither did my viewing of the game. 💫

FoxTrax, also referred to as the glowing puck, was used by Fox Sports' telecasts of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1996 to 1998. Although some viewers thought that FoxTrax helped them follow the game more easily, the concept was criticized by Canadian critics for being a gimmick that distracted from the game. In August 1998, the NHL broadcast rights went to ABC, and FoxTrax was not brought back. In 2002, an informal poll by ESPN solicited opinions from readers on the worst innovations in sports history, without specifying choices in advance. The Fox glow puck came in 6th place, just behind free agency.

Currently, it is not used during NHL broadcasts.

Today, most of the NHL game videos come from cameras mounted "on the glass" and does not have some of the sweeping motion the tripod mounted cameras beyond the seating had. The rink mounted cameras also pick up the game sounds much clearer than can be heard while attending a game in person, as the glass restricts the sound of the game from the seating area.

The broadcasting of NHL games, just like NFL and NBA games has come a long way since the glowing puck days of 1998.

These days I watch cricket and I am fast asleep after 10 min ... I love this sport! :lol1:

Was it the sound of the leather and willow, or was it the commentry of the game that puts you to sleep?

Chappelli (Ian Chappell) is the worst offender, his commentary would make the chrome finish peel of an FJ bumper. I am only glad that he only does the Adelaide games.

I loved it when Bumble (David Lloyd) is in the commentary box, his humour and presence makes the atmosphere really enjoyable to listen too. And he is a great storyteller, especially when he faced some of the fiercest of Aussie bowlers, Jeff Thompson and Dennis Lillee. Here he is telling one of his infamous incidents.

I hate to resurrect this thread but used to view a lot of hockey but even though fighting has been practically removed, a lot of sports now has a lot of sports gambling and sports gambling ads now which is not great for us Witnesses so been avoiding it more now. Sometimes I do wonder about getting into baseball just for the statistical knowledge and how math heavy it can get.

Yes, there does seem to be more gambling ads than there used to be. Not sure where you live, but most of the grocery stores, Walmarts and convenience stores here all sell lottery tickets.

I see no need to avoid shopping and buying gas because they all push/sell lottery tickets, so I also see no need to avoid any particular program on the TV because of what the ads are for.

Appreciate your perspective, haven't thought of it like that before. Convenience stores and gas station do sell those but it is pretty hidden where I am.
