Crocheting

Recommended Posts

So, after my baby was born, and I was looking for something to do while breastfeeding, I got into crocheting.
When I get pics on the computer, I'll share what I've done so far. I've done a dolly and a bunny rabbit. They're not great, but they kinda look like what they're supposed to be. I'm working on sunflower granny squares rn.
I thought learning would be a lot harder, but once you get the general principle of what makes up a crochet stitch, it's actually really easy. I tried to learn knitting, but I didn't like it. Having a needle without a hook, just doesn't make any sense to me, now.
Anyone else here crochet?

So, until I start taking pics of what I've done so far, I wanted to share some materials that helped me, in case others might want to learn. Honestly, I thought it would be really hard, but it turns out in crocheting, you're building chains on top of chains, and you're always either:

1. wrapping a bit of yarn around the crochet hook, before poking the hook into the previous chain
2. or wrapping a bit of yarn around the crochet hook, after poking the hook into the previous chain, and then pulling it through the chain.

This blog right here has a lot of the images that have helped me:

such as this one:

The above is a US half double stitch, UK double stitch.
A single stitch is a lot simpler.

I love to crochet too! I didn't always though. I learned the basics from my Mom in my younger years and didn't seem to have the patience to sit and do it long enough to finish anything. I dabbled with it off and on over the years and then more recently I decided to give it another try because I was needing something to do that would be good for my mental health as well as good therapy for my hands.

I lost my Mom in 2020 and when I think of crochet, I think of her. She loved it and made so many beautiful things. I have made my youngest daughter a couple of throw blankets and dish cloths. I am working on a sunflower granny square blanket. I also like making amigurumis. And I made some baby hats and matching booties. Several other things but I don't want to make this comment go on to long. I'm glad to find someone else who crochets!

(I will try to attach a few pictures if I can. I hope to see your pictures soon! )

minims and quavers

https://shanemcdonald.ie/music/learning-types-of-music-notes-crotchets-quavers-minims-etc/

The first bar has a minim, which is 2 beats and a crotchet which is 1 beat = total of 3 beats. The second bar has 2 quavers, each a half beat each, and we have 2 crotchets, therefore we get 2 half notes + 2 whole notes = 3 beats. Finally, the last bar as a crotchet and a minim again totalling 3 beats. Hopefully you can see below how the music notes are used for timing of beats and how long you play the notes for.

Daydream -

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.
