Russia's FSB Raids Jehovah’s Witness Office in Occupied Mariupol

Recommended Posts

Agents from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) raided a Jehovah’s Witnesses office in the occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol, state media reported Monday.

Russia’s state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported that documents were also found “showing that the extremist organization Jehovah’s Witnesses, which is banned in Russia, is involved in the financing of Ukrainian militants.”

An investigation was underway to identify “those involved in the financing of Ukrainian neo-Nazis,” RIA Novosti added.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses is a U.S.-based Christian evangelical movement set up in the late 19th century that advocates non-violence.

Can anyone appreciate the irony and contradiction of those two paragraphs?  We fund neo-Nazis, who tried to eliminate us back in the day, but...we advocate non-violence....GIF by Steve Harvey TV

KOTN is not familiar with this? (and now we are neo-Nazis? ... wow, KOTN is not very well educated it seems)

Jehovah's Witnesses were subjected to intense persecution under the Nazi regime. Nazi leaders targeted Jehovah's Witnesses because they were unwilling to accept the authority of the state, because of their international connections, and because they were strongly opposed to both war on behalf of a temporal authority and organized government in matters of conscience. Many actions of Jehovah's Witnesses antagonized Nazi authorities. While Witnesses contended that they were apolitical and that their actions were not anti-Nazi, their unwillingness to give the Nazi salute, to join party organizations or to let their children join the Hitler Youth, their refusal to participate in the so-called elections or plebiscites, and their unwillingness to adorn their homes with Nazi flags made them suspect. A special unit of the Gestapo (secret state police)compiled a registry of all persons believed to be Jehovah's Witnesses. https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/nazi-persecution-of-jehovahs-witnesses

Meanwhile in 1950s Greece, Jehovah's Witnesses were accused of being communists and anarchists, and in the Soviet Union, we were accused of being American spies. :facepalmpo2:

Come on worldly people, which one is it?

"Is There Any Success in Intimidating Jehovah’s Witnesses?"

Sergey Ivanenko, Ph.D., a religious scholar who was present as an expert in 14 criminal trials against Jehovah’s Witnesses in different regions of Russia, describes his impressions in his book "About People Who Endure Persecution" published in 2023: "Jehovah’s Witnesses… believe that it is their religious duty to preach Christianity to law enforcement officers, judges, as well as prisoners… Is there any success in intimidating Jehovah’s Witnesses? No, there is not. They continue to preach, help each other, and support prisoners of conscience. They believe that persecution strengthens faith in Jehovah, and strong faith brings peace of mind. Those who know the history of Jehovah’s Witnesses understand that they have endured severe persecution and have not departed from their faith. Nor are they frightened by persecution in modern Russia."
