Mondegreen thread - that is, songs or poems with misheard lyrics

Recommended Posts

Jimmy, your pique has been noted. 'Chinese whispers' is a game where a number of people sit together, possible in a line or circle and one whispers a sentence to, the next and so on. The last person that calls out what he or she has heard.

There was a classic, where the first person said  "send reinforcements, we're going to advance", became at the end "send three and fourpence, we're going to a dance". This is a very old example, seen by the use of old UK coinage, but it illustrates the point.

To be honest, though, sometimes text messaging seems to have mondegreens of its own. Or am I shirt sited?

Oh my goodness I laughed so hard at some of these mis words lol… my dear late brother used to sing
Hermen Determined
Loved to come and play… instead of Firm and determined in this time of the end. He was 7 years older than me and constantly trying to make me laugh while singing.. he had such a wicked sense of fun.
Once I remember I wore my dress inside out to the meeting I was about 10, when I realised I was mortified, but my brother got in trouble for laughing out loud at me meetings… so manny funny things happen hey!!!

i've never heard of Chinese Whispers..well, I hadn't heard of Mondegreen either. I simply stumbled across this thread, examined, and my interest was piqued.

Hmmm, Brother Jason. I don't know what "pfp" is. Can you elucidate, please?

I am going with ProFile Picture

OK, with regard to my P(ro)F(ile)P(ic): Well, whenever I introduce myself, many people ask, "Oh, do you sell sausage?" That leads me to reply, "No, that's someone else; we just have the same name." The guy who came up with his brand of sausage put his name (hence, my name, toio) on it, and the product is in practically every grocery store I've entered. I've been to London, Ireland, and Paris but didn't see his brand in any of those countries.

I reckon that if I were to be out in field service in other countries, I wouldn't hear the question at all. Because the sausage and a number of other breakfast products bear his name—(and mine)—I get the question frequently.

So the PFP answers the questions before they're asked, "No, I'm not the sausage man or the pork man or the pig man."
