After answering a question by Art, Jimmy added  that Feds had been after Brian's human family for their questioning medication of Speedy Brian, an aging Gelding, who  upset the track betting by out - running a much younger pony, Highway Robbery and that Speedy Brian's owner had signed an agreement with some jockeys that if any one of them won the Kentucky, they would split the purse, 50 % for rider, 25% to current owners of that horse, 25% to any extant owners of Brian; "always coming, always closing" then Jimmy gulped a swallow of his drink.

Art asked Jimmy some questions including the current owners of Brian, and got the following answer: "Brian never went to Kentucky and Julie and  I  were the only Derby winners that I know of - she may not have forked over any winnings from the purse, anyway Brian's final owners were the Dreyfuss family.

Cooked books, and not by a toaster.

Someone in a local residence where a number of trackies board, has inside info, but I haven't been by there in years.  If you find the right venue, the son, Anthony, might have a hot lead. If stuck, try the paddock or backside and ask about where someone could get some decent sleep and a  meal.

Art realizes Anthony Dreyfuss isn’t just some kid with “a hot lead” — he’s the same Anthony whose initials were watermarked into the ledger’s missing pages. That means he didn’t just know something… he removed something.

Art exhaled slowly — if Anthony’s initials were really pressed into the torn fibers, then whoever ripped out those pages wasn’t hiding the truth about Brian… they were hiding the truth about Anthony.

Art already knew Anthony, who spilled this tea: "Brian's original family, the Oneils, combined two OTC meds which made Brian a regular winner and they signed a number of agreements for using their combo effectively for the Kentucky Derby leaving Julie in debt according to her winnings.

Art’s getting handed pieces — but not the picture. Every voice around him is offering a sliver: cooked books here, torn pages there, an OTC cocktail, a family with shifting ownership, a jockey agreement no one seems willing to admit to. Everyone talks, but no one tells the whole truth.

What stands out now is simple: every path leads back to Anthony, but not one person has said why he keeps touching the paperwork. When the same set of initials appears before a sale, after a sale, and on pages that conveniently disappear… that isn’t coincidence. That’s motive.

If Art wants answers, he’s done chasing horses. He needs to chase the hand holding the ledger — the one person who keeps showing up without ever being in the story.

And that’s where everything’s going next.

Anthony seemed unobtrusive, except on his taxicab job, where he was considered the nicest guy, ever, and at the track he won quite a bit and occasionally placed a bet at the 50 dollar window, He was only occasionally at the track, when he got a fare there and some had even signed agreements while in his vehicle.

Anthony, who still lived with his parents; (his drunk father who seldom worked and his mother who boarded out to trackies) partly expected to have some one ask about Brian and the still unfulfilled agreements about the horse medicine and watched as the men had toast and coffee or tea; he especially watched as the toaster acted up to notice whom was reactive.
