Epub files and moon reader pro

Recommended Posts

Hello there, I am new to this forum and am not sure where to post. I need help... My Moon Reader Pro is misbehaving. When I go to my JW Library and I choose the watch tower book and then select the EPUB version the file is downloaded but it is zipped into two folders namely "META-INF" and "OEBPS" and there is a file "mimetype". I cannot find out how to continue from here. My Moon Reader version is 9.6

Is it perhaps too old? I bought this version a while ago. Kind Regards. Br Angelos

I am confused - you are trying to use Moon Reader to read the files that you used JWLibrary to download? Why not just use JWLibrary?

OK, if you download via the jw.org website - make sure you download the epub file and note where it is being stored. It won't download as a zip file. Here is a picture of what I mean:

This is the best way to DL files for use with an app OTHER than JW Library.

If I peek into the zip file I get the following file structure. Check the photo.

Inside that files structure there is no epub file. So moon reader pro does not recognize it. It used to work before.

Anybody been down this path before?

Hmm, I tried this on a PC and phone and I am getting completely different results. Mine is not DL'ing as a zip file.

This makes me think something is going wrong with the download.

I don't know why it is also DL'ing a zip file, but just use the epub file.

I did a little dive into the internet to see about the other files. It looks like your file manager is letting you see what is INSIDE the epub file itself. I wonder if there is a setting for "see system files" or something that is on.

Anyway, this discusses what all the little pieces of an epub file are - as the epub file itself is really a zipped up file containg a bunch of smaller ones:

EPUB files are actually zip files that contain images and text. Your file browser is opening the structure inside but you don't want to do that. See if you have an option to directly open them with Moon Reader and they will open fine.

This is an alternative way that may be easier for her:

Open Moon Reader, go to Options

Enable the setting to import books automatically.

To the right of that setting there is a gauge that allows you to add more folders where the books will be automatically imported from.

Add Downloads to that list (could be /sdcard/Downloads or whatever it is called in your device) and accept.

That way, every EPUB file you download will be automatically imported into Moon Reader. If there is a file you no longer want, you can simply delete it.

Thank you for your responses. So, I have done what you said but there is problem that I cannot understand. Check the photo, after unzipping the file, the old files previously had that "txt" option. Those work fine, the new ones are not txt files and moon reader does not see them.

Why are you unzipping the epub file?

Moon reader should read it WITHOUT unzipping it. In fact, that is the key to having them read correctly.

I use Moon Reader PRO on my phone also. When I open it there is a pulldown on the top left where you can select "My Files"

Then navigate to the correct directory and click on the file you want to read (note: it wil show epub):

If you unzip the epub fiile - then you are just left to open up small pieces of what is the actual epub.
