I got an email from "PayPal"  stating:

"A small reminder from Mac Store

Payment request details

Amount requested

$899.99 USD

Note from Mac Store:

Due to a PayPal server problem, we approved a transaction without your permission. We're sorry for the inconvenience. For a refund, contact PayPal immediately at 1(888) 485-9196.

It was interesting when I looked at the sender email, it did have paypal address, however there was an additional address too which tipped me off to it being fake. I called the 888 number and got a weird message. The 888 number did not match the official PayPal number from their website.

This is a good reminder to look in on those who are elderly (like me) that are not as tech savvy (not that I am that great).

Of course I went om my PayPal account and found no transaction. Anytime you get a message like this, the best choice is to go to the official site, not through any links that may be inserted with the email. The sad thing was the e-mail provider marked it as from a trusted sender when it was not! I looked up other scams too, some are saying they are Microsoft and some other companies. Always go to the official site when you have any questions or doubts. Reminds me of the scripture "Keep on the watch".

NEVER call a number on an email that you are suspicious about.  NEVER respond.  NEVER click a link.  Now they have your number.  Your spam calls/texts will probably increase.  :crying:

ALWAYS go to the official site and find the contact # or contact email.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm fussing.  It's just so important to be on the guard with this stuff.  Especially with AI now...

Scams get SOOOOOOOOO bad around the holidays.  Please be careful friends....  :praying:

Also, if you call their number and speak at all they can record your voice and use AI to fake your voice for further scams.

They can also record your verbal approval and use it later.

"Can you hear me now?"

"Yes"

"Thanks, that's all we need" click.

I used a Google voice number that I have. I would never use my cell phone, thanks for the additional warning!
