No negatives when you get film developed.

Recommended Posts

I grew up with getting negatives back when you turned a roll of film in. I know it's old fashioned way to take photos, but one I enjoyed thoroughly. Recently I found out when you turn a roll of film in or one of those disposable cameras the negatives are not returned. They now return them on a CD. Part of the fun was storing your negatives, using my darkroom to create the photos I took (black & white only). I am spoiled by digital photography no doubt about it. But I do miss the days of film.

'No, CVS does not return the original negatives when you get film developed:

Film processing

CVS sends film to a third-party lab for processing, and only provides digital images of the film on a CD.

Turnaround time

Depending on the type of film, it can take 2–3 weeks for film to be developed at CVS. Disposable camera photos are usually ready in 7–10 days'

No, Walgreens does not return the negatives when you get film developed:

Film processing: Walgreens sends film to third-party labs for processing, and only provides the images as scans on a CD.

Turnaround time: Walgreens' turnaround time is typically three to five days.

Quality: Some say the quality of scanning and printing is poor.

AH, yes! Working on a dark room. What memories. I got to do that at school when I took pics for the school paper and the yearbook. Then later, a brother I was close friends with had a two-bedroom apartment. He turned the master bedroom into a darkroom since it had a bathroom with running water. We not only did B&W ... we also did color pics.

It is a shame negatives are disappearing.

I too was the highschool photographer and got a two year photography scholarship which went down the drain when I chose to pioneer.

Likely the processors destroy the negatives to get the last bit of silver off them. When silver was cheap we washed those tiny black particles down the drain. In the 70's when little film processing kiosks were set up in every shopping center those tiny particles of silver were the prophet margin for the business.

When film cameras became sparse silver tripled and quadrupled in value making what would be an expensive process viable.

I am not sying I am Superman, I am only saying that nobody has ever seen Superman  and me in a room together.

Okay, it must be old age on your part. A prophet margin would be the tolerance allowance, or the leeway or perimeter around one of Jehovah's prophets. (or something like that) On the other hand, I think you were actually referring to a "profit margin."

Okay, I'll shut up now.
