GroceryAI - Would you use something like this?

Recommended Posts

Hey friends 🤗, I wanted to share something with you and ask you for an honest opinion.

I’ve been playing around with something recently just for my own use and it turned out so interesting that I thought I’d share it with you. I’d also love to hear if anyone would even be curious to try it out. It’s not a product or anything commercial but if there’s interest I could share it with a small group for testing.

So here's the story: I realized I spend a lot of time (and money) on grocery shopping. I often buy more than I planned, then still end up missing some ingredients and on top of that there’s the daily "what’s for dinner?" struggle, while still trying to keep things healthy.

To fix that, I built myself AI bot. It logs into my Makro account (but it could work with any other online grocery store), looks for the cheapest options while still making sure I get a wide range of healthy products and then based on my nutrition targets (calories, protein, carbs, fats, vitamins, minerals, BMI, etc.) it creates a full meal plan of 4 meals a day for the whole week. Since I like to experiment, I set it to surprise me with dishes from all over the world. Then it adds everything straight into my shopping cart (It could even auto-order but for now I prefer to review and confirm manually).

This is only my second week using it but I have to say it works amazingly well. My wife was shocked at how much food arrived 😅 and yet I spent about 3.5 times less money than usual. It looks like we’ll have enough to last until Tuesday so in reality it’s even cheaper. The best part is we ended up with loads of fresh fruits, vegetables, and genuinely healthy meals.

I’m still testing and improving it but I’m curious do you think something like this has potential and would anyone be willing to subscribe if I decide to make it available as a paid tool later on? Please let me know in the comments or send me a private message if you’re interested in joining as an early tester ☺️

This sounds most intriguing to me... and practical.

Personally, I'm more interested in how the Ai would work, however my wife constantly asks me what I would like for dinner. And this for over 40 years of marriage.

From my experience, there are many 'free' apps online to do various tasks. I've never explored this line you are suggesting- but it sounds a winner to me.

How to cover the costs of all this is also a field I have not explored. Some apps have built in ads. And then you buy the 'Pro' version to remove ads. Lol.

I would think this might work for you too.

Also, as I live DownUnder, the issue of a version that can manage to interrogate various local and national online grocery outlets - with differing currency and weight/measurements - would also present challenges.

Despite this, I have no doubt you have found a niche market. Now just to get it working, before someone else presents a solution...

That's interesting, but I personally wouldn't use anything like that. I've yet to find a practical use for AI aside from summarizing basic web searches. As someone living in poverty in the US with relatively few options available (I can pretty much only get to Walmart and ALDI), I would never be able to afford something that ordered and delivered groceries.

Granted, I don't have the issue of asking what's for dinner, I'm Autistic and a self described '90%' carnivore, so I often only buy ground beef/lamb, fatty roasts and eggs. Sometimes organ meats as a supplement. I have a 10lb bag of mined salt, that's all the seasoning I need for decades. I've never had an issue of disliking or being tired of eating this way when I'm hungry, only if I eat out of habit when I'm not actually hungry or to try and fill an emotional void would I not enjoy it. It's very satiating and keeps me full for longer, in my experience I need to eat much less often than I would on a typical diet, and so I spend less money on it monthly. I try to think of how people ate traditionally and how Jehovah designed us to resolve such issues. The Israelites ate what we would today think is a fairly limited diet in terms of what they had access to regionally, but they had all that they needed to be healthy and strong in meat, fish, olives, fermented grains and some fermented fruits, salt. They ate the same types of things for thousands of years. I aim to focus on what I need for dinner, and not what media or environment influences me to want. So I don't really like what the AIs output based on their inputs.

I eat every day on the campus of my university at the restaurant.

I pay about US$  0.18 for a meal. Sometimes for dinner I buy barbecue skewers (attached figure) or chicken skewers for about 1 dollar each. My addiction is milk with coffee.
