refractor REFERENCE EXTRACTOR utility

Recommended Posts

I have made a simple commandline/terminal utility (for Windows, Linux and macOS systems) to parse text and .docx (MS Word) documents and extract scriptures and references to publications.

So, I you have a talk outline (or some other document containing publication references in parentheses or square brackets), this will extract them and give you a link to view your references (or scriptures) on Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY (wol.jw.org).

Instructions and downloads on my GitHub repo: https://github.com/erykjj/refractor

Issues/suggestions: either here or create an issue in the repo

Some have asked how this is different from “extract from clipboard” under Edit in the Watchtower Library...

Some notable diferences:

  • There is no native WT Library installation for Linux - through emulation only
  • You have to have WT Library installed in the language of your text for it to detect the scriptures; refractor can handle dozens of languages without a big install
  • WT Library won't recognize "uncommon" scripture formats, like these: II Chronicles 2:3, 1-Cor 1:11, 1st Peter 1:1, 1.John 5:3
  • WT Library will only detect publication references in material within the library - so, no external documents (outlines) will work
  • refractor can give you a link to the reference on WOL that you can share
  • anthing missing or anything you would like to see? Please let me know ;-)
