First time international solo travel recommendations?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on renewing my passport (I got it originally for a cancelled Canada Bethel trip in 2015) before the year is over and I hope to travel internationally somewhere next year. I've never been out of the country other than to go to places like the Bahamas on a cruise so I'd love some ideas of places that would be good for 'first time' international travel as a single sister on my own. I was thinking of choosing a vacation package but most of them call for 2 travelers and I don't have a guaranteed plus one. Also, I'd love to get in contact with the local branch of where ever I visit, whoever has done that before please let me know how that works out or if that is even an option for me as someone who isn't a pioneer or special servant. Years ago a sister told me she did that prior to visiting Japan and was able to link up with friends there, and I believe another sister did that prior to visiting Taiwan. But I think both were pioneers at the time. And on that note, because of that I am not able to go to an international convention next year (not a regular pioneer and haven't been baptized for over 20 years) so that isn't an option on the table for me :( Edit: Also if you know of some reasonably priced JW international group trips/tours sites please let me know, I'm open as long as they don't require me to pay a arm and a leg to go by myself. I've seen a lot of good bethel trip providers but only a handful for international travel

Jadon, I have no idea of what kind of plans you have in mind. For many Americans, visiting Europe is a nice cultural shock while at the same time not so extreme as visiting Africa or Asia or South America.

There are many fascinating places to visit around here. Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece are great destinations, with a rich history, nice people and weather and great food. They are quite affordable too from an American point of view. France, Ireland or the UK are very interesting and enjoyable too. These are some of my favorite countries, not meaning others are not worth visiting too. :)

Distances here are not long, all of Europe being within at most three hours by plane. And tickets are cheap. So depending on the time you have available, maybe it would be possible to visit more than one place. If you are interested, there are many European friends in the forums, as well as many Americans who recently traveled here and can offer some suggestions. There are branches in most countries and you are welcome to tour them, but don't forget to make reservations in advance. When you have a more concrete idea of where you will be visiting, I'm sure there are friends here who will be happy to meet you and show you around.
