Colorado charter school plans to install pepper-spraying drones for active shooter response

 

STERLING RANCH, Colo — A new Colorado charter school plans to install pepper-spraying drones designed to confront an active shooter before police arrive, making it the first school in the state to move forward with the technology.

 

John Adams Academy Douglas County, a K-8 public charter school opening in Sterling Ranch, Colorado this fall, is partnering with Campus Guardian Angel, a Texas-based company that says its drones can be remotely flown during an active threat to locate, distract and slow down an attacker.

Interesting... Another option could be a drone that sprays sleeping gas or a knockout agent. Although there are dangers associated with that as well.

I think that would be way too dangerous. It would be impossible to control the dose safely since those in range could be any size from a small child to an adult man. You would need a medical degree to assess the dose that should be released based on what you see on the drone camera, which is not feasible for schools.

You make an excellent point! We may be focusing too hard on the safety of those working in security there. However, I do think if drone are being used left and right in bombing in wars and shooting at terrorists with precision, there is something to be said for shooting cannisters of sleeping injection concussions from 4 different angles simultaneously at hostage takers and active shooters. If the active shooter try defending, at least one may get through.
