Overly played songs at meetings

Disclaimer: I am NOT saying I hate these songs or that they are bad.

 

I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with "Unfailing Love" and "Listen, Obey, and Be Blessed". I feel they are used, repeatedly and so often compared to other songs (I'm giving slack to new songs that will probably be sung quite often after released). A while ago, i don't know HOW it happened but we sung Unfailing Love three weeks straight (I think once it was for the watch tower, once for the weekday meeting, and the speaker chose the song for their talk. I talked about this with another sister and we kind of had a laugh about the songs she felt were overly played as well. There's really no point to this thread besides "I wish more songs were used." I mean there are some songs we sing and i feel like i never heard them before because they are probably MAYBE used once or twice a year. I was hyped about "Lightness in a Dark World" actually being selected for the first time in I don't know when last meeting (Actually i think the last time i remember singing it was at the 2025 convention......so over a year ago....)

 

A side note...i feel that Unfailing Love is also the most played song in the convention music videos, either that or i'm not realizing that the same convention videos are being played to me over and over when i hit the "Random" button.

Agreed!

 

Listen, obey and be blessed is not a favourite of mine, and I think we sing it too often, at the expence of other, very beautiful songs.

 

The one that is being played over and over here, is "Gaining Jehovah’s Friendship". It's a wonder I don't know it by heart. (Nope, not a favourite that one either)

 

(I don't remember the last time we played "Unfailing love". )

 

I wish we would use ALL the songs more, not the same ones over and over.

 

I  LOVE Lightness in a dark world! ❤️ Didn't we just sing it at a meeting?

I have irrational dislike of several songs, okay probably a little more than dislike. I won't mention them but when they are played I cringe and cannot make myself sing out like I usually would. I don't know why and I can't explain it. I just do not like some of them.

I try to not dislike any of the songs (even the boring ones that just reminds me of like an old school version church (Think Little House on the Prairie). There's a song we sung a few months ago, it doesnt have a chorus, and it's really slow. It's like 4 minutes long, I was not happy about it ;-; (I THINK it was a song we sung near the time of the memorial, which explains why i dont remember it, its one of those once a year songs)

That's a middle of the road song for me. I don't love it, but i dont hate it, it's like "Yeah i can vibe with it", I think the melody itself keeps it on my good side.

Yes, this past week midweek meeting, first song.

 

My other favorites: Throw Your Burden on Jehovah, Give Me Courage, Our Joy Eternally, With Eyes of faith (This song actually grew on me, i did not care for it at first), Peace at Last, It Will not be late, Give Jehovah Glory, Good News, To Do Your Will is my Delight (100% it's because of the music with "This Joy I feel, This joy is real", i dont know why but that riff...amazing). Life without End At Last the crescendo with the chorus......<3 yes please.

 

I probably have a few more favorites (Searching for Friends, Reaching Out, but they are songs from when i first joined so those are more because of nostalgia.)

Wouldn't they be played the same everywhere? We all follow the same spiritual program every week. Unless your public speakers are choosing the same songs every week. 😂 🤷🏻‍♂️

I mean its possible especially if they have speakers coming from different congregations and they all have the same song in their heart. If that was an Elder.....

And this is why Jehovah made me a girl because he knows i cant keep my mouth shut and not have salt mouth, or whatever the phrase is...speak with grace or something...idk

Don't worry, the list keeps increasing and options keep coming every now and then. We don't have to like all the songs the same way but we have to remember that they are all designed to praise Jehovah. As long as they are still doing that we're fine. Even if we don't get to sing our favorite songs at the meetings as often as we'd love to, we can still sing them when we're alone enjoying our personal time or doing chores.

Been to 3 funerals this past year.  Each played "Unfailing Love".  However, the comments from the unbeliever relatives about the song, how lovely a song it is, they were really moved by it.  The song is a good witness in itself.

 

Song 139 - See Yourself When All is New.  When this song was released, it seemed like nearly every speaker choose this song.  It still is a great song.

Song 76 - How Does it Make You Feel.  This seems to be an assembly favourite.

 

There is a radio segment on one of the stations here called "Hidden Treasures".  Listeners can call in to request songs that don't get played often.  Sometimes the songs at our meetings are like that.  Some songs we sing over and over, while others get played once in a blue moon.
