Scientists have identified more than 200,000 species of fungi.

 

That sounds like a lot.

 

Until you realize that they estimate there may actually be around 2.5 million species.

 

That means we may still know very little about most of them.

 

And, we are not talking about some distant planet. These are here. In the soil. On trees. Under leaves. Inside plants. Growing in places we walk past every day without ever realizing they are there.

 

Thousands of new fungal species are still being identified.

 

I find that amazing!

 

We sometimes speak as though mankind has explored the earth. We’ve named things. Classified them. Studied them. Written books about them.

 

And yet there may be more than 2 million species of fungi alone that we have not even identified.

 

Fungi.

 

One small part of creation.

 

It makes me wonder how much of Jehovah’s workmanship is still around us that no human being has ever studied, photographed, named, or perhaps even noticed.

 

The more we discover, the more we seem to discover how little we know.

 

What an extraordinary reminder of the depth of Jehovah’s creation.
