Tubular Bells

Recommended Posts

I just bought the new 24bit 48khz version of Mike Oldfield's classic album from Bowers and Wilkins Society Of Sound, and it is excellent!

I love the cd which I have had for a long time, but the new hi-res version is so much clearer, with greater instrument separation and 'space' and, with a bit of volume, a great musicality.

The package included Apple lossless and 5.1 versions too.

I don't know if it is in the USA, but I recommend it if you can play hi-resolution files. You can download it in UK, France and Germany for sure.

I guess there are lots of pieces of music which have been used subsequently in ways we would disapprove. I have never seen "The Exorcist" so the music does not bring any untoward images to my mind.

By the same token, Penderecki's cello concerto and string quartet, Henze's "Fantasia For Strings" and the Allman Brothers Band singing "Ramblin Man" would now be unlistenable as they are used in the same film!

A lot of classical music has been used in films I would not watch, but the music is fine.

Still, if it offends your conscience, that is all there is to it.
