Did you know that...

  • In some languages (I'm looking at you Finnish, German, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish!) the first five books in the Bible are called "First Book of Moses", "Second Book of Moses" etc. instead of Genesis, Exodus...
  • Song number 34 titled Living Up to Our Name in our, eh, new(ish) song book is the only song that has the exact same number as in Sing Praises to Jehovah
  • In some languages we have yet only 55 songs (without notes) to be sung at our Christian meetings. Two examples of such languages are Amharic, Tigrinya and Icelandic. In Icelandic they had had 225 songs only as late as 1999 (http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/302005007#p104) so of those three languages mentioned they took the, eh, biggest "hit". Previously, in Amharic (IIRC) 110 songs were available. However in Tigrinya Sing to Jehovah (n'yehowa zemrulu, or ንየሆዋ ዘምሩሉ) was actually quite an improvement; previously only 29 songs out of 225 had been translated to that language!
  • In Swedish our main Bible study aid What Does the Bible Really Teach is called What Does the Bible Teach
  • Before the release of the complete New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures in Ossetian in 2010 (http://www.jw-media.org/rus/20100906.htm), a language spoken in the Caucasus, complete Bible had never been available in the language

To this David said: “What have I done now? I was only asking a question!”

– 1 Samuel 17:29
