  1. I'm not sure if it was already mentioned or not, but did anyone notice that in our new song book the songs are arranged by subject. I wondered why they are numbered in a certain order. Now I know! Pretty cool, huh?
  2. just returned from the DC........new releases, yes. no addtional info due to "spoiling" unless you pm me
  3. just this past monday i was diagnosed with S.A.D., seasonal anxious disorder. all these years i thought the anxiety i feel at this time of year was due to the terrible holiday spirit, which we all know is so extremely negative; drunkeness, rudeness, parties, craziness in the stores, etc. and the holiday music that gets into our minds (finding ourselves humming when we do laundry and stuff). it is true that some of the anxiety/depression has to do with how God dishonoring the practices are at this time. it turns out, however, that the condition i have is genetic and a real disorder. sure enough, i remember all my life how my mother would 'hunker down' during this time of year, keeping the curtains drawn, taking long naps, be moody and irritable, etc. and then she was diagnosed several years ago with S.A.D. i had my dr. appt. and was explaining how out of the blue i keep getting this anxious feeling, but not having any problems out of the ordinary, couldn't understand this heart racing, withdrawn, gloomy and negative feeling.........inablilty to focus, sometimes even having a hard time articulating....... i went for my regular visit and told her what i was experiencing and sure enough, she hit it right on the head. it is worth examing as there is a short term medication that could help during this time. this site has more information; worth looking into. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/seasonal-affective-disorder/DS00195
  4. wanted to start a thread on this topic; http://world.time.com/2012/11/15/a-new-gaza-war-israel-and-palestinian-militants-trade-fire/ tensions escalating.......perhaps leading to a future cry of "peace and security?"......i know we are't supposed to speculate but aren't we all wondering about how this cry will be of significance? maybe a major conflict that draws other countries in and the UN will have to step in? just sayin'........
  5. You remind me of a line of thought that helps me stay neutral. 1. If an honest and sincere person were to run for a political office they would not last because their opponents would play dirty while they would, in all honesty, play by the rules. 2. The higher one goes in a political career, the more effective the back-stabbing. 3. By the time you get to the top political position, you are looking at back-stabbing, fang-tooth, Cotton Mouth belly crawlin' on Olympic levels. Remembering this much helps me stay neutral but that's not the King Cobra. 4. The King Cobras are pulling his / her strings. 5. Somewhere above that is the father of all serpents.(GEN 3:14) Don't get me wrong. In no way do I mean to imply that anybody in this forum has been sucked in to taking sides. I just like to keep things in perspective so as not to get "drawn that way" in my thinking. "drawn that way" quoting Jessica Rabbit in the animation "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". i love this comment!! Ps 2:2 "The kings of earth take their stand and high officials themselves have massed together as one against Jehovah and against his anointed one" all under the leadership of the god of this system (2Cor. 4:4).
  6. reminds me of the illustration of an ant on the train track trying to stop the train.....
  7. It seems their issue is one of traffic - NOT because we are witnesses. I have been in several of these here in Henderson as a representative for the City. Many communities don't like churches added in their residential neighborhoods - because of the added traffic - especially on the weekends. But MANY churches have won court battles over land use for churches in residential areas. They are VERY tough to stop. The Cities tool to try and ease concerns is asking for a "traffic study". An engineering firm - using accepted formulas for church and number of parishioners - can show what the increased traffic will look like and whether mitigation is in order or if this can't be done. The branch has some great tools that assist with this type of study. I am certain they will come to some type of an agreement. i agree. where i live there are always groups trying to stop some sort of building, whether it is costco, target or walmart. it is always about traffic. well, almost always. walmart was mostly political but yes, the others were about traffic. i don't think this article is about being a Kingdom Hall as much as it is about added traffic. and most of all, if Jehovah wants that Kingdom Hall built it WILL be built. we aren't the ones directing matters. He is.
  8. this is the full article from the bbc news; http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7718587.stm
  9. question then would be....Are we promoting our thoughts by posting them here on this forum? I have not heard anyone insist that they see events having a certain role...... it is a fine line however.....we must be very careful. i haven't seen that either. it is a very dignified forum here.
  10. How do you separate speculate from keeping on the watch... they seem to be intertwined to a certain extent...however too much speculation can lead to disappointment.... everything has to be kept in its place and not focused unduly on i agree. it is pretty hard to NOT speculate. i suppose it has more to do with our promoting our thoughts insisting we see events having a certain role, beyond what the 'slave' is telling us? perhaps?
  11. (Proverbs 24:17) "When your enemy falls, do not rejoice; and when he is caused to stumble, may your heart not be joyful." thought this might be a good scripture to keep in mind when we see things happening as we see this old system coming to its end.
  12. amen!!!! :bible: keep focused on the work we have been assigned to do!
  13. this is a very wise post! we tend to get too excited and start to speculate and even possibly get involved in stating our opinions appearing to take part in this world's affairs, not remaining neutral. we need to be careful and remain no part of the world.
  14. I honestly do not know how you manage that... i honestly don't know either. the alarm goes off and i say "Jehovah, please help me" and i get up. this morning was more difficult than usual...... Jehovah gives us power beyond what is normal, that is for sure!
  15. i get up at 4:45 every morning for early morning service. it feels like 2:00 when my alarm goes off.........
  16. The only thing that could get me up at that time is the..great tribulation...lol oh goodness! that made me LOL!!!! thanks for that!
  17. As in... "it could be worse - the prince could be marrying another boy"...? In Britain, it wouldn't surprise me. thank you for this one, bob! i seriously LOL!!!!
  18. i consider it a breach of my Christian neutrality to be attentive toward this 'historical' event. just for me, however. i detest the 'rulers' of this world who stand in opposition to Jehovah. so for me, no, i will NOT be watching.
  19. here on the central coast of california our weather has been on the chilly side but sunny and clear. yesterday it was actually a beautiful day with a warming trend today thru the weekend. perfect for service! i have been trying to keep my eyes on our friends in the severe weather zone as flooding and tornadoes are hitting hard! i have a few friends in the areas hardest hit. one thing for sure, our weather is very weird and it easy to see how Jehovah will use the natural elements to cleanse the earth in due time. in the meantime, keep our brothers in our prayers!
  20. http://www.weather.com/newscenter/alerts/region/severeWxAlertsSCUS.html?from=sb_tools_face a dear sister had this posted on her facebook page. latest update is that they are bunkered down in a closet! they are in the 'red zone'!
  21. i was thinking if it would be possible to start a thread on the horrific weather that we are having here in the States. could you brothers and sisters affected please give us updates on how you are all doing? also, any friends in need of assistance? the news here is mostly focused on the 'royal wedding' which is of no interest or priority (to me, anyway).
  22. Awake 03 2/8 The Bible’s Viewpoint Is There an Unforgivable Sin? IS THERE a punishment worse than death? Yes, death without the hope of a resurrection because one has committed an unforgivable sin. Jesus said that there is a type of sin that “will not be forgiven.”—Matthew 12:31. The Bible, however, describes God as being forgiving. Although men can be prone to hold a grudge and withhold forgiveness, God ‘forgives in a large way.’ (Isaiah 55:7-9) In fact, at great cost to himself, God sent his dear Son to earth to be a propitiatory, or covering, sacrifice so valuable that it could blot out our sins.—John 3:16, 17; Acts 3:19; 1 John 2:1, 2. In due time God will resurrect many who have been guilty of serious sins but who will no longer be accountable for their past actions. (Acts 24:15; Romans 6:23) In fact, Jesus said that with the exception of the unforgivable sin, “every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven.” (Matthew 12:31) So you may wonder, ‘What could be so terrible that it is unforgivable by God?’ Past the Point of Repentance Jesus’ warning referred to willful and deliberate “blasphemy against the spirit.” There is no acquittal for this type of sin. “No, not in this system of things nor in that to come,” he added. (Matthew 12:31, 32) Those guilty of such sin will not be resurrected. What is blasphemy against the spirit? It emanates from the heart, revealing a malicious attitude and intent. The purposeful intent to oppose God’s holy spirit intensifies the seriousness of this sin. To illustrate: In some parts of the world, the law distinguishes between murder in the first degree and murder in the second degree on the basis of intent and the way the murder was committed, and it limits capital punishment (death) to intentional or premeditated murder. The apostle Paul was formerly a blasphemer but said: “I was shown mercy, because I was ignorant.” (1 Timothy 1:13) To sin against the holy spirit is to oppose it willfully. It involves a wicked heart condition that reaches the point of no return. Paul was evidently referring to this kind of sin when he wrote: “It is impossible as regards those who have once for all been enlightened, and who have tasted the heavenly free gift, and who have become partakers of holy spirit, and who have tasted the fine word of God and powers of the coming system of things, but who have fallen away, to revive them again to repentance.” (Hebrews 6:4-6) The apostle also said: “If we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left.”—Hebrews 10:26. It was the conduct of some religious leaders in his day that prompted Jesus to warn against the unforgivable sin. But they did not heed his warning. In fact, they had him killed. Later they heard undeniable evidence that the holy spirit had done something miraculous. They were told that Jesus had been brought back from the dead! It was clear that Jesus was the Christ! Still, they acted wickedly against the holy spirit by paying the Roman soldiers to lie about Jesus’ resurrection.—Matthew 28:11-15. Warning to True Christians Why do true Christians take the warning of the unforgivable sin to heart? Because although we have accurate knowledge of God and of the activity of his spirit, a wicked heart could develop. (Hebrews 3:12) We should be careful not to think that this could never happen to us. Consider Judas Iscariot. He was once a faithful follower of Jesus. He was chosen as one of the 12 apostles, so he must have had good qualities. But at some point he began to let wicked thoughts and desires grow, and they eventually overtook him. During the period of time he was an eyewitness of Jesus’ incredible miracles, he was stealing money. Then, for money, he knowingly betrayed the Son of God. Some people who were once faithful Christians have purposely drawn away from God, perhaps because of bitterness, pride, or greed, and are now apostate fighters against God’s spirit. They willfully oppose what the spirit is clearly accomplishing. Have these individuals committed the unforgivable sin? Jehovah is the final Judge.—Romans 14:12. Rather than judging others, we do well personally to guard against committing secret sins that can gradually harden our hearts. (Ephesians 4:30) And we take comfort in the fact that Jehovah will forgive us in a large way, even of serious sins that we have committed, if we are repentant.—Isaiah 1:18, 19.
  23. Matt. 24:21 "for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short." we know conditions are going to get pretty bad.......we need to draw close to Jehovah and become spiritually strong and determined. nuclear power plants leaking, national uprisings, earthquakes, tsunamis, whatever it will be, we will remain focused and rely on Jehovah. so, when we say amen to that, how are we doing with dealing with family crisis, unemployment, illness, apathy in our ministry, etc? these things are another form of 'natural disasters' that can cause us to weaken or strengthen our determination. just a thought. we say we will die for Jehovah and our faith and our brothers, but are we hospitable and generous? are we demonstrating our love and concern for our brothers?
