I been talking to individuals and see differant reports on Smart Meters. I heard some getting sick because of it and others electeric bills has gone up or sky rocket too. Babsically I was told it was an option to have it and I chose to keep the old one.

And yesterday the meter man came and WANT to change it and I told him it was an option and I don't want it. Basically he insisted to put it on and I told him him the samething agian. And I told him I'm not here urgue with him and I was told by the company it was an option and basically he left. Boy, I glad I didn't had tell I'm part Native American and get out the ax and use it. :indian:  or :pistols:

On a serious note, have anyone has a Smart Meter? If so, any higher bills or sickness? Believe me, Smart Meters are ONLY smart enough to raise your electric bills.

I work for a power company and have installed them and have heard both sides. I would be concerned more about privacy and surveillance dangers than radio waves. If you use a cell phone or have a microwave you shouldn't be concerned. If you have a LEGITIMATE emf sensitivity and you don't already live in a big city with emf bathing you constantly then I see your point.

Important Notes: The meters are standardized for worldwide distribution. They are GE brand.

The meters have 2 communication chips. 1 to transmit readings,1 for a "future" use, it is able to communicate with "smart" appliances, fridge, a/c, etc.

The meters can turn themselves on and off, yes there is a relay inside that is capable of breaking 200amps of load. (I was laid off for this reason on 2010)

In the future everyone will be billed by what's called TOU or time of use. Carbon Taxes will be added to your bill based on what time of day you are using the most energy. Therefore you will have to program your appliances to run at weird times like 3am to save money. How will that be possible you might ask? Your smart meter will already have that 2nd chip that is capable of programming appliances for you!

I think smart meters are a very bad idea, but not for the silly reasons you read on the Internet.

We have one. The electric went down, because Grumpy turns off the water heater until I get back from work. He must be taking cold showers the week I'm at work.post-556-0-67524800-1375297249.jpg

Cold showers are invigorating Vernalee. LOLS.

I have friends who had them installed and regret doing this.

They have to wait til they are sleeping basically to wash & dry. Their bills went higher than before installing metre.

But no matter how you look. Electricty is an evil must like our cars.

They keep put up the prices.

You may want to consider one company that offers discounts. Like 10 or 14 percent of your bill.

Do you have a Go Switch. They are a free service Will find the cheapest electric or gas in your area.?

I don't know if it's true or not, but I got the impression the electric company will also be able to turn off your electricity if they get to the point where they feel you are using 'more than your fair share.'  Whatever that is.  Maybe they mean, 'we think your carbon footprint is getting too big.'  This would be bad for me, since I start feeling sick the minute I have to spend any time outside in really hot weather.  As you can imagine, I hibernate a lot in summer.

I absolutely hate the heat and I, too, stay inside most of the time. I don't need the air turned down too far but I get sick in the sun.

As long as you pay the bill - they'll not turn off the electricity. One thing you can count on is their greed :)
