Do you have an E book Reader?

Recommended Posts

Mine is back ordered, so I'll have to wait at least two weeks. It is available at the store near me, but it is 13 miles away and there is snow and ice on the ground and I am not going to be driving.

Here is a helpful link for ebooks archives of older publications of ours

Man... driving under those conditions are fun!!!!!!!! lol...... Just gun the car, then when nobody's around crank the wheel as hard as you can at the same time slam on the brakes. Enjoy the ride!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have my Sony Reader for over a week, now. I have the complete New World Translation on it, thanks to a brother who gave instructions on how to do it. All our digital publications too. I found on Archive a lot of our older publications and scrapbooks of pictures from news articles. Here is the link Read carefully before you download. Make certain it is acceptable and consider first the source.

I've been plundering this site and Google Books (which mostly has the same literature) for a while. The PDFs are the best to get because they are scans of the books rather than text files. It helps if you have or have access to originals too and can check them if you think something may be wrong.

At the moment I am playing around with IsiloX to see if I can make a little library of the older literature - I can't promise anything but I have all of Br. Russell's books and all of Br. Rutherford's books converted to HTML and might be able to convert them to Isilo PDB files for mobile devices ...once I work it all out :perplexed: I've converted the Divine Plan of the Ages and it works okay but pulled in another page and has massive fonts which don't look too good on my little Nokia X6. A bit of fiddling and I think I will be able to get something working.

We dont have it yet, but my wife just ordered us a 3rd Gen Kindle.....it should be here in a couple of days.

It looks like an interesting gadget/widget, if it is as nice as all the reviews, it should come in handy.....it appears that you can get an astonishing amount of material on one....to carry all those books around, if they were hardcopy, you would need a couple of wheel barrows!....

I'll let y'all know how it goes----

Well, we got our Kindle, complete w/ WiFi, 3G and the cover...

This thing is cool, it is very easy to read, it has a non-reflective screen that I assume will be easy to read in the sun, if I ever see the sun again---(winter in Iowa, bleh--)

The cover is nice, the light plenty bright enough to read by, all the different functions and capabilities make it an interesting and quiet usefull tool....I am going to stuff tons of things on it and see how it all works out....if anyone has any questions in particular, ask away and I'll try to answer them.....so far, I like it---

I have a Kindle 3 and like it very much. The only problem I have with it is that PDF files don't display very good, or I'm doing something wrong. I was able to get a pretty good Bible from Amazon that didn't cost too much. There is a program you can get that will transform PDF files to Mobi which is the language for Kindle. If I remember before I post this I'll attach the file. I kind of wish I had gotten the Sony for ease of reading the WT and A. I did convert some of the books but because of the way our literature is formated, they were not usable in the Mobe formate. I wish I had known this before I got it. If someone has one that works better with our literature, can you let me know.

I posted about the Kindle I have and from what I read of other postings, I wish I had gotten the Sony.

Have you been able to get the NWT on your Kindle? I can't figure out how to do it. If you figured it out can you share?

Me too. I love my Kindle but that is the one thing I regret. I wish I had the NWT.

I have a nook color with wifi. I d/l mags etc. Have my books and the btw book. I love this thing

Can you read our publications without having to change the format? I am thinking of changing my Kindle for one easier to use with our publications.

I have a Kindle and I wish I had purchased the Sony Reader instead. I really like the Kindle but I'm not crazy about the way PDF files read on it. :bored:

Hi to all the brothers and sisters. I'm Dan or Danny, and I'm very new, actually my first post here. I own the new iPad 2, and with it you can download directly the pdf files from http://www.jw.org. A magazine takes less than a minute and comes out very beautiful, with the pictures and writing crisp and clear. By saving the file into into the iBooks App, it comes onto a bookshelf. It really looks like a wooden bookshelf, with the magazines or all pdf files beautifully stored, with the front cover showing like on a magazine stand. Once saved you just touch the magazine you want and it opens up right in front of you. As regards the Kindle reader, from what I have read on a website, it can't apparently read pdf files directly, you first have to convert them to a file that Kindle can recognize. You can do this with a program called Mobipocket Creator or some other such program. However, according to a Sony webpage, it seems the Sony Reader can directly read pdf files. However, because things in the IT field change so quickly, it's best to go to a specialized electronic shop and speak to a salesman who will hopefully know all the new up-to-date features of each reader.

Best wishes and Christian love to all,

Dan

If you are one that has been serving Jehovah for many years, you remember,

"From Paradise Lost To Paradise Regained".

Here is the link to download the ebook.

"From

Paradise lost to paradise regained"

Thats the first book I studied!

Brings back nice memories...

When I first received that book at the door, I started reading it after I

put my kids to bed, and read it all through the night until I finished it.

The next morning I told my husband I know this is the Truth. . that I had

found the True religion after praying for it for years... with that book. I

was baptized the following year, 49 years ago on the 16th of this month.

Thank you Jehovah for answering my prayer. Graylady

Hello to all the brothers and sisters. I'm Dan, or Danny, from Brisbane, Australia. This is my first posting on this forum, so I'm very new. I have an iPad 2, which I know costs more than either the Sony or Kindle Readers, but of course you can do a lot more with it than just read books or magazines. As regards to using it to download literature from the society, which are pdf files, the iPad works very well. Once downloaded, for instance an Awake magazine, you can save it to the iBooks App, where it is stored on a bookshelf that really does look like a bookshelf. The front cover is facing you like it would on a magazine rack. If you have several magazines, you just touch whichever magazine cover you want, and out it comes, the entire magazine, with the pictures and text crisp and clear. Anyway, that's just my experience.

Best wishes to you all,

Dan

question to those who have a Sony ebook reader:

which one do you have?

the pocket version or the bigger 650?

And can you read the magazine PDFs good with the pocket version?

I'm still wondering....

I have the Sony Daily Edition PRS-950. The print is difficult for me to read without reading glasses. The Large Print reads fine.

Hello Chuck,

No, I don't work for Apple although I might have sounded like I did. Ha! Ha! Maybe I should ask for a commission! No, but seriously, the new iPad works well for pdf files. However, in our last service meeting it was announced that the literature is also now available as ePup files, or will soon be available. I just tried with the computer and then the iPad but I could not find these sort of files. So I presume they will soon be available or else I'm doing something wrong. I'm not sure.

Anyway, take care and warmest Christian love,

Dan
