Most things aren't really the end of the world, but one-third of Americans who were surveyed believe that the Syria conflict is an indication that our days are numbered. A biblical passage which prophesies the destruction of Damascus and links it to the coming of Armageddon is leading many people to think that the current violence is an apocalyptic omen.

A LifeWay Research poll asked 1,001 people if they agreed with the statement, "I believe the battles in Syria are all part of the prophecies of the Book of Revelation," and 32 percent of them said yes.

Twenty-six percent agreed with the assertion that "U.S. military intervention in Syria might lead to the Battle of Armageddon that’s spoken about in the Book of Revelation."

I agree that - "I believe the battles in Syria are all part of the prophecies of the Book of Revelation" - just probably not the ones they mean. I would put all this with rider of the RED horse "war".

This is the trouble with surveys at times - vague questions and no context.

Plan ahead as if Armageddon will not come in your lifetime, but lead your life as if it will come tomorrow (w 2004 Dec. 1 page 29)

We had a very interesting Special Report on our British Channel 4 News a few days ago. The report pointed out that the upsurge of evangelical interest in the Syrian claiming it was where Armageddon was prophesied to take place, was not just confined to Christian escatologists (prophecy watchers and interpreters).  Apparently it is a big part of Moslem belief too.

This report shows many Moslem clerics  quoting a prophecy of their prophet's Hadith where they say the prophet blessed the land of "Al-Sham" = Syria. The centre of the cradle of Civilization in the Middle East which the West used to call Levant. Al-Sham is the centre of the area where the prophecy says that the World began and where it will End.

This chemical attack in Syria near Damascus is therefore, they say, all part of prophecy. It is therefore  how they recruit foreign fighters and converts to Jihad. They are told it is their duty to Allah to be a part of the fulfilment of prophecy - coming to fight for this righteous cause - Blessed Sham.

This is very like Christendom and its reasonings for their followers getting involved in  Just Wars or Crusades through time and some extremists wanting Armageddon and seeing what they can do to help it along. We however, like in this weeks Watchtower, know that the fight at Armageddon is not ours - the angels are reapers and those in heaven fight the Great War of Armageddon - when it comes according to more accurate Biblical Signs than others are seeing of course. The fact that so many religious organisations are aggravating wars citing religious reasons could be the last straw for the UN to say Enough! and turn on them for their interference to peace and danger to International Security.

The next interesting point the Moslems make, that could be used as a topic of conversation/common ground when talking to them, is that they say that prophecies point to the great sign of the prophet Jesus returning with Allah to face and sort the Antichrist in the Endtime.

Thank you Helen..We have a call on a moderate Muslim family we placed our pocket letter with in D&D and on the first RV placed the Good News brochure and our new pocket letter.."Who Really Controls the World?"..It shows the clergy with a big cross being controled by Satan!..You have given me confidence to call again knowing their beliefs will harmonize with our message..thanks!post-2322-0-41057400-1379284579.gif

Comparing our day to Noah's, Jesus stated, 'and they took no note until the day the flood came and swept them all away'.  Still, with all mounting evidence that something 'big' is going to happen, people just keep on living life with all the appearance of 'normalcy' as they can and continue to ignore their creator.  It's really sad, isn't it?
