25 YEARS AGO

Sept. 23, 1988 — A deliberately set fire caused about $100,000 damage to the new Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall at 1247 Old Steese Highway early today, forcing church members to search for a temporary meeting spot.

“The inside will need to be totally refinished,” said Alex Twogood, an elder with the church. “We’ll make plans to take care of that and go back to operation in that building on that same spot. Meanwhile, we’ll continue our activity at another location.”

Hundreds of volunteers from in and outside Alaska did most of the construction on the building in four days this summer. Some people picketed the construction site at the time, protesting that the Jehovah’s Witnesses are a cult.

That was sad. $100 000? that was alot of cash.

Sad but not sad, since I am sure 25 years on the brothers are flourishing and Jehovah's name continues to be declared.  Just like the brothers in Ireland at the moment and elsewhere.
