My doctor put me on Statins for a while, but when I read how bad they are for me, I stopped taking them. I eat oatmeal every day. I was afraid to tell him that I stopped, but when my bloodwork came back my levels were better than his, and no statins.

Doctor wanted me on Statins and I refused. There had been a report -by experts at a ME/CFS conference years ago that stated -statins destroy muscles of ME/CFS patients. A doctor - a pill pusher, here in London, told me that statins destroy the muscles of everyone. The heart is a muscle.  Your choice. Statins are pushed on those that Might be at risk, including children. Bottom line is it is a big $$$$$ maker for drug companies and patents are expiring.

All of you replied just like I was thinking. I liked several points but the one that stuck with me answered why we see so many drug commercials. They have to make their money back, they're no longer being funded. So they play with people's lives for money. They push drugs of all sorts- hear the reports on Viagra-like drugs now?-  becuase they're only interested in money. Well, kill the people and nobody has to worry about the money!!

About a year ago I had a doctor tell me I should take something for my Cholesterol. He prescribed some pills. He showed me my "numbers" to explain why I needed them.

I went to an RBC project that weekend ... I had not filled this prescription .... and, during a long break in my part of the project, I sat and talked with a Sister in the "First Aid" department. She has been an RN for about 30 years. She has had to go to "refresher courses to keep her license current. She also holds a "degree" and "certification" in "Holistic" medicine.

She asked to see the prescription and knew what drug it was. She then used her smart phone to look up information on the drug. She has access to "professional" sited most of us cannot use. The site she went to listed various statin drugs, their "benefits" and their side effects. It also listed and warnings AND history of any legal actions and legal history of these drugs.

She then showed me one of the most interesting things in the information on "High Cholesterol" .... this was the "numbers" that are used.

She showed me the current scale as to what is considered low, normal and high ... and, sure enough, my cholesterol is "high". However, she then showed me that scale that was in use BEFORE the use of statins .... hmmmmmmmmmmmm ..... that's right, it seems they changed the scale AFTER statins.

According to the "old" scale, I do NOT have high cholesterol.

Guess you know, I never filled that prescription .... and, the last time I went to the clinic, they said my cholesterol was "better" ... and I really have not changed my diet all that much.
