Robert Barr, a contemporary and friend of Jerome K Jerome, wrote this short story about a detective called Sherlaw Kombs in a book I read for Librivox.

You have to add a little bit of mystery into your voice, dear brother, to add a little of intrigue to that detective story... 

 

I like librivox  too and listen to "The Real Mother Goose" to find out what is it  "a refined British accent"
