Looking for router recommendations

Recommended Posts

We are looking for a new, quality router. Our last two kept misrouting data packets. We download A LOT of files almost daily, plus streaming hulu and Netflix. We are a typical home with 3 smartphones, 3iPods, 3tablets, 2computers, bluray, Xbox and a smart tv all networked.

Any recommendations?

I like the Linksys routers, mainly their "E" series. Even the lower cost models will do everything you need it for.

I've set up a few "N300" and they have been very dependable. They are usually around $60, but they seem to be on sale at Amazon:

We recently replaced our old, stable but weak signalled router. I bought the bestselling router on Amazon despite being skepticle about the price. It was only $19.99 but I'm very happy with it. So far it's been very stable and the interface is easy to use. The best part is how strong, far reaching the signal is. We can get a good wifi signal at the farthest part of our back yard by the fire pit which is 250 feet away! :)

ETA: We have 8 people in our household with 7 iPads, Wii's/WiiU, Rokus, smartphones, streaming Netflix, Amazon, etc. with no issues (20 Mbps broadband).

I don't like to go cheap on my routers. I usually go D-Link, then Netgear, lastly Belkin.

For D-Link I would stick with anything with a DIR in the model name. Netgear anything NightHawk. Belkin anything AC900 and above. That's just me though. You can probably find them under $100 on Amazon but probably not be a lot.

I'm looking to go out and buy one, as I'm impatient. The whoke family is frustrated so I doubt I'll order one from online.

My office computer is hard wired. The connection clip is broken. Do these cables wear out? Could the brocen tab cause dropped packets?

Linksys are available in many stores, including Walmart. Linksys have always been very reliable for me, where I have had issues with Dlink and Netgear routers. I guess it's like "Ford and Chevy", it's what you are used to and comfortable with.
